How widespread is IDPA in british columbia

it's good to hear that it is expanding, I hope someone out here decides to run with it. I guess we'll see.
and yeah the roundcount is supposed to be 2 mags on the belt one in the gun sort of thing. But when I've carried for real, I've carried 4 spare mags so I guess I am unique that way?

Come on now Slavex four tubes of BB's doesn't count.

A friend of mine and I once held off an entire German divsion with a deactivated stripped out Browning 50 cal we found in the Army's trash dump at the Edmonton Industrial Airport back in the 50's. Did all right because Barry ended up as a Lt. General in the Canadian Army. I on the other had, marched around HMCS Nonsuch's parade square as a L.S. for three years and then went into banking.

Right now IN BC 4 clubs are affiliated

- Chilliwack
- Terrace
- Fort St John
- Dawson Creek

also close to me is Peace River.

grande prarie is listed but have not heard of any IDPA shooting going on there for awhile :(

The general concensus out here seems to be "LOTS AND LOTS OF ROUNDS!" which doesn't fit in too well with IDPA philophy.

Even at my club, when we tried to develop Tactical Pistol matches, people STILL wanted to put on 30+ round count courses of fire. Yup. Tactical all right. :p

That's 'cause many guage how good a match is by the number of rounds they get to fire...
Some guys just wanna shoot a lot of boolits :D

Then set up lots of stages.....!

We on average shoot 3-4 stages a night, on Fridays we try to add in a few more since we do not have to be home for work the next morning.

So for the guys who want the higher round counts becasue its only worth it to have more shots fired...

Two things.

1). Set up more stages. The IDPA recommended maximum is 18 rounds per stage, but you can put two stages in one area, its do-able. This will allow the group to increase total round count by 50% minimum without having to make ridiculous round counts (IDPA regs state you can only have the mag + 1 in the gun and two spare mags available for each stage. Mags are limited to 10rd capacity).

2). You can have "competitor clinics" and "defensive shooter clinics". Show the guys what works for competitors and defensive shooters, often they overlap. Teach them about how to use cover best for getting the best score and how to use cover to minimize cross section etc, how to best reload, best grip, sight picture and so on. Oh and include something about clearing stoppages. No really, stoppages can make or break a score in this game!

IDPA is a sport based upon Defensive Shooting. A growing trend a topic discussed extensively at the Area Coordinator level is have more stages with fewer rounds per stage both at the Club level and at Sanctioned matches. This would be in keeping with the premise that the sport is geared towards defensive shooting. If I recall correctly at the Washington State Championships there was only one or two stages that were over 12 rounds. On the two stages I SO'd the first consisted of 8 rds while the 2nd six. Trust me they were challenging stages.

For those clubs shooting indoors a certain amount of fore thought is necessary to reduce the amount of time necessary to set up stages. When I shot at Abbottsford it wasn't all that difficult to re-arrange stages quickly using the same props.

One advantage of fewer rounds per stage the stages are shot faster and scoring/taping time is reduced allowing shooters to get more rounds in, on more stages.

Every once is a while we run a "skills and drills" night that I base on IDPA fundamentals that cover all of the IDPA doctorine, I am going to increase this to once a month now that we shoot every week. It is usually 200-300 rounds, it is fast, timed shooting with lots of trigger work. This is a good way to get more rounds down range and enhance the skill for the sport..
