how will you carry your SMD12?

I've shot three IPSC style matches with a pistol gripped 14 incher. had a saddle mounted reddot on. two were shot with a conventional grip, one with a breacher's grip.
I found if you held it high it wasn't a problem. also the Breacher's grip did not seem to make much difference. I may be mistaken, but my theory is that the recoil reduction system is designed to work with a shoulder stock, and since your arm holding the pistol grip has a lot less inertia than your upper body as in the case of a snugly held shoulder stock, the recoil reducer will compress less. kind of the same idea as limp wristing a 1911, the slide doesn't move enough to cycle the action. For ####s and giggles i'd like to have somebody run a high speed video to see what happens.

'BabySeal you can make your own hard plastic sheath out of Kydex without too much trouble, and use a snap or tie to secure it. But it's a sort of thing that fits along side a backpack, muzzle up, and you reach behind and pull down to remove. Such a thing probably wouldn't be comfortable on a leg.

Kydex is formed by simply warming it, like in a sink full of boiled water.

Yeah. Making my own was the first thing I thought of. I tried a couple mockups with cheaper HDPE but I didnt like anything I turned out. 17.5 inches gets pretty long when you are trying to tuck it away somewhere.

If there were a poll on this thread my vote would be for a cushy single point sling.

We have discussed slings as probably being the most comfortable on a long hike. But I want a holster too.

I have been working with a holster manufacturer to get a custom leg drop holster done up out of cordura and he thinks he can do it no troubles.

I sent some pics and some aproximate measurements out. He is going to tackle this right away.

Can anyone give some exact measurements as follows? (I havent recieved my SMD12s yet)

1) Overall length, and

(with a string loosely wrapped)
2) Circumference at mag cap
3) circumference at center of fore end
4) circumference at reciever
5) circumference at trigger

Thanks everyone.

If you are reading this and someone has already posted their measurement, please do post your own. You know the rule, measure twice, cut once.

If/when he comes back to me with a price I will negotiate with him based on the interest in the product here on the boards so that we can get the best price based on a group order.
