How would you build your m14 for under $1000?

If I'm not mistaken many of the US builders of match M14 rifles prefer walnut stocks as the GI glass stocks lack the rigidity. They twist when using the 1907 pattern sling properly. If you happen to see Art Luppino's CD's his bedding method removes a large amount of wood adjacent to the receiver and will have the glass from the trigger meet the glass from the receiver. It is not pillar bedding. This eliminates the issue that crush has with wood to some extent. Besides Walnut looks better.

This is my opinion and in no way am I trying to start an M14 mud slinging contest.
 
Alright! seeing as I posted this, here's my build that Thomas is working on as soon as Canadapost gets it to him!

Norinco 22"m14 all stock.. one of the earlier ones as I discovered this info about it "receiver was manufactured in March 1994. The bolt and trigger housing were likely made in the 1980s or 1990s" from Different on m14forum.
Here is what is being done to it:

USGI fibreglass stock
Springfield Armoury bolt with USGI internals
Criterion chrome lined 18.5inch barrel with a 1-10 twist
NM spring guide rod.

Once that is all done, I will be possibly buying a Navy Muzzlebrake for it [I'm very disappointed with SEI at the moment though]. Then Garand rear sights.

All of this for more than $1000 (shame on me)
Once done I'll hopefully go deer hunting with my grandad and twin brother with this gun.

just so i get this straight.....

pull out trigger assembly.
sit down and watch TV and pull the trigger and reset, rinse, repeat?

so we are using the multiple cycles smooth out the trigger for a cheap trigger job?
cause i can do this!

id be leery about putting anything in to assist with this as youd have to be damn sure to flush it all out.... jewelers polish, eh..... what about just some mothers aluminum polish would that do the same?

Lapping compound and believe it or not some toothpastes can be used to lap parts together. I have scope lapping compound and it works well. Be sure to redistribute it on the parts frequently. I wouldn't worry about it getting where you can't clean it, a little dab will do ya.

First grouping was a 5rd group, one flier :( @50 yards with iron sights & a ####ty rest, 150grain Remington core lokt factory ammo. Norinco m305 reciever, 18.5" criterion 1/10 medium chrome lined barrel, NM open rod spring guide, usgi fiberglass stock, Springfield armory bolt with usgi internals, tuned trigger. All work was done by 45acpking as he assembled it for me and sold me the barrel, bolt and NM spring guide & tuned the trigger. Fantastic Guy & even worked on it during deer season for me :D
