I was looking at the 58, but if the 858 gives me the same thing for a few hundreds cheaper, I would rather save some cash..

How is the 858 for;

1. Quality

2. Accuracy/performance

3. Reliability

Thanks!

Finish is a crap shoot. It is worse than norinco
Accuracy is pretty darn good right above an sks
Reliability is fair they all have the gremlin it seems and buying a 700$ gun that needs work is lame! They would suck for bump firing if we had bigger mag cap. If i went back now id probably be in for a type 81 when/ if they come. I do however find it coll that half your gun is an actual vz58 since they are built from scraps aside from recievers , trigger assemblies, and barrels

The ones that sell for 699 at some retailers.. I just want the regular wood stock one.

Many of them sell for around that. Which one are you referring to, FSN, CSA, etc?

You want a comparison, I've owned a CZ 858 and a CSA .223 carbine, so if you're wondering what the difference between those two are, and if the extra money for the CSA is worth it, I can help...

I've had a few of these firearms and I must say they are an amazing bang for the buck. You are getting genuine military parts in the CZ858 builds. They are battle proven.

It's like an AK in appearance, but much more modern.

What more could you ask? :D

Huh?

The VZ isn't any more modern in design than an AK. It's basically an improved SKS.

What 58 rifle are you referring to that costs a few hundred more than a 858??

An improved sks is a great description of a vz58.

I own a CZ-858-2 and a CZ-858-4.
They are a lightweight robust firearm that have always gone bang when I've pulled the trigger. Offhand accuracy at 200 yards is 8-12 inches with milsurp ammo. Shoots better than I can hold at that distance.
I like them better than my AR's (and I own 3 of them)

The CSA are the more expensive ones. They are finished in black and have a tabbed bolt carrier and drilled for side scope mount base. Are machined with thicker reciever walls.

The CZ's have a VERY tough finish despite what people really think of them. Very durable for a surplus rifle. Alos come with way more mags, bayo and scabbard. Sure they arent tabbed but that is very easy to have done IF there is any problems.

In fact I have seen/handled CSA's that have had WAY MORE problems then any CZ's I have owned and right now I have a mix of about 6 cz and csa's on hand right now in my safe.

My .02!!!!!!!

Well the VZ is slightly more modern... but not by much. Is the CZ as good as a CSA? Aside from the non-tabbed bolt carrier they are just as reliable but finished with that ugly lacquer. If you like the old school look then go for the CZ. The gremlin has more to do with the shooter than the actual trigger. Learning how it happens and why will help you adjust your trigger control and prevent it. I think it happened to me twice in the time I've owned these rifles. They are quality guns though that's for sure. Very reliable and they'll put up with a lot of abuse. And thankfully the aftermarket is geared more toward quality unlike the SKS which mostly has cheap s**t for aftermarket parts.

I agree with the " improved SKS " comments above .

My length of pull is more suited to the 858 . It's also lighter . The added benefit is it attracts fans whenever I take it out .
Aside from the ghastly wood chip barf furniture , for the money , you can't go wrong .

The Restricted Cz 858 that I just traded was an amazingly accurate gun, and I never had a single issue with it. I will probably by another one some day, I just wanted to try something else.

I have both CSA and the 858. Accuracy is good enough it can tell good ammo from poor ammo. 100% reliable.

Other than that they seem a bit expensive, they are a hoot. I guess that is why I have 3. Short, long and both calibers.

I wont part with mine, ever.

I bought a CZ858 a few years ago and only ever had one issue. A round fired but wouldn't eject the case. It was seized in the chamber. Other than that, no problems and I've fired about 2 cases of surplus ammo through it. The coldest it was used was about -25 with no problems.

Well I am not sure what you define modern, but having a last round hold open is definitely more modern than what the AK47 has going on... Just saying. :D

Many firearms that predate both rifles had last round bolt hold opens. It's a nice feature to have, but the designer not including one hardly makes one "more modern" than the other. In reality, both are early "assault rifle" designs.

ive used mine in -40c. got snow and #### in it. still goes bang. the finish is ok, who even cares. Great rifle.

As to the AK moderinty comparisonI would say it is an AK with extra features. Hold open, huge ejection port, canted charging handle, milled receiver, striker fired. all these things are nicer than the AK I have found. I've shot only 1400-1600 rounds with various AKs tho and over 10000 with CZ/Vz's
