So I stopped at my local shop and this poor old brno was just traded...
What was a nice #4 but the barrel has been cut (re-crowned proper), trigger F-ed with and the mag well filled for single shot...Also the stock is a left hand profile right hand bolt.

Good thing the price was right !

I couldn't leave it there so It followed me home....Now what...??

Restore what is left of it put on some optics and call it good ?

Reshape the stock for ambi fit ?

Sell the left stock, buy a norc jw copy and steal the parts for the #4 ?

I was thinking about a stock reshape and black finish, Cheek rest, bipod, tac looking optics and make a custom brno tactical...R:d:

I'm not even sure if the stock is orginal or a nice home brew copy..

Suggestions welcome...please !

Try it. It's F'd beyond any hope of restoring it to original condition. I bet it shoots just fine. Looks like a prone shooter got their hands on it. What does the re-crown look like? Are you able to fix the mag-well?

Edit: you'll probably want to bed it as well, looking at the mess of the stock around the bolt handle.

The barrel cut and re-crown look very well done. Nice machining work and nice recess.

came across this pic from a post below(stolen ;) )

This is exactly what I would like to do ! I think it's a great way to make a nice looking shooter out of what I have.

i found a cooey 39 with a real bad bore pitting on the outside of the barrel payed all of $50 for it the stock was ok so i cleaned it up removed the old barrel cleand the receiver up reblued it got a barrel made up for it and fitted (bull barrel) free floated it made a nice little target shooter i got groups the size of a penny at 50yard

just go's to show a old beat up .22 can be made into a nice gun good luck

That was the original stock.
Brno actions are excellent quality, and one of the actions that can be used for making a custom rifle, although they are more challenging to rebarrel than most centerfire actions.
A Model 4 uses a trigger mechanism that is mechanically similar to a M70 Winchester. The earlier Brno triggers were akin to a Mauser; much less sophisticated.
I know I have a magazine housing assembly with magazine catch. I do not have any Model 4 trigger parts, although I do have various Model 1 parts.

canpuna,
Thanks for the compliment on my Savage/Anschutz "Grouse Sniper" I think your #4 would be perfect for a similar face lift. It's too bad about the strange bolt handle recess but I am sure that could be fixed quite easily.
I'm still contemplating an adjustable butt pad and a butt "hook" of some kind for my gun.

I would look for a stock then see how it shoots. If the single shot feature works then no problem, when target shooting your likely further ahead. If the price was right you did good, fix her up and enjoy.

So after some debate and testing I found....
The single shot: Perfect ! Just drop in the round in and it feeds perfect every time.
The trigger: while the safety doesnt work right it is crisp and light. Feels great.

Now because the stock was already played with I decided to go further with it.

I reshaped it to match both left and right and painted it Flat black. I went to our local surplus shop(Rose's Auction) and was given a surplus plastic sign which I traced a template onto and then painted it textured green and heated and bent it. I attached it with a bolt and hand-tighten nut off a lawn mower handle from the scrap yard. Pulled a swivel stud out of a junk gun. Found that used Millet See-thro rings fit perfect on CZ grooves. Found a bushnell used scope and DONE !

I am quite happy with the way it turned out. The build cost me $6.95 for paint and $55.00 for the scope. The camera flash really washes it out as it looks much darker and sinister in person.I started building a adjustable butt plate but might just leave it as is.
