Anyone know a good way to remove the lacquer on steel cased surplus?
Bypass the chemicals with a homemade solution of baking soda and water for cleaning the lacquer from small brass objects.
Bring water to a boil in a pot large enough to submerge your brass item(s). Add baking soda at the rate of 2 tbsp. per quart of water.
Place your brass object in the boiling water and allow it to simmer for 15 minutes..
Why?
Yes, lacquer thinner will dissolve lacquer. Better wear a respirator with organic vapour cartridges and use rubber gloves. Those disposable nitrile gloves won't last at all.IIRC, laquer thinner should take laquer paint right off. If memory serves, laquer does not dry in the same way that enamel does. It remains able to be redissolved by it's original chemical base.
i'm not 100% sure but i'm think you could tumble the laquer off.
I'll add this to the sillyest things I have read on CGN![]()

If we're talking about live rounds...![]()
