Want to set up a varmit rifle that "may" see occasional deer duty from a large stand where I can rest it nicely. One thing I have come across is the 800-1k round count for a shot out barrel in this caliber? Truth to this if one lets the rifle cool sufficiently on an open bolt between rounds and cleans properly?
I see where there is a nice looking Howa for sale and in stock but a barrel job seems to be a bit of a bear compared to the Savage, but I would have to order the Savage in. Kinda why I'm asking about the barrel life, as it will see a pretty good round count thru it every year, especially when the kids discover an easy recoiling rifle as this in Dad's collection.
I have a boatload of ought six rounds down range with my old 77 and accuracy is still very nice, but I've always been good to it with letting it cool and keeping things clean, does the .243 really have that much more burn going down a 6mm tube?
Doh!!! Now I see the barrel life span thread....
