Cute little guy... good job dad.

I started all of my kids very young... the girls quit hunting when they got into the arts. My son hunts and shoots between climbing expeditions. As much as I would love having them close-by and spending time in the bush with me, they are all over the world, expressing their own passions.

Lucky kid, great gun! I love mine, carry and shoot it just about every day. My 500 yd "coyote" rock is now rabbit sized thanks to it's accuracy and the Athlon FFP scope that makes it hard to miss, lol.

I took a bear a couple weeks ago with the 115gr Barnes. Slight quartering away angle at 30 yards, entered behind the shoulder, and exited the far side shoulder. Bear ran about 20 yards and piled up

Mini Bartell was pretty happy to see his Grendel get bloodied

awesome thread, congrats, we have 3 black bears now from 10-55 yards with the factory eld-m, 2-DRT and 1 went 20 yards. The largest boar was at 55 quartering away and went 20 yards, textbook from back half of ribs through the boiler and broke the offside front shoulder(leg flopping), good chunk of mushroomed lead in edge of meat just under hide on offside shoulder and that leg was useless, 16.1" barrel ruger

Awesome job! Nice colour on the bear too! Im putting a Grendel together as we speak! Just waiting on the floor plate conversion kit which should be here this week... Fun little cartridge!

todd cool pics with the young fella, i totally missed all that.

im here though, im searching abot the 6.5 for a near future / early nxt year Rifle in mini howa for the young fella, 12yo.

over a .223 , is ther much authority for deer, Fallow deer will be most targetted, the .222 works pretty well with 55gr, surely the 6.5 projectile is much more suited- whats effective range, is 200m away too far? using a standard SP say 120gr

Thanks mate

I've taken a few deer with mine now and I would have no problem using it out to 400+ yds on a deer sized animal and expecting a one shot kill if I did my part. 123gr SST's @ 2800fps or so from my 22" barrel get the job done very efficiently IMO.

Jebus, 123s at 2800 is toasty for a grendel. That's creedmoor velocity.
My 20" and 22" grendels (22" is a Howa mini) start seeing pressure signs between 2550-2600fps with both 120s BTs and 123 SSTs (Starline brass, cfe223). Most people are happy to find an accurate load around 2500fps.
I wouldn't think twice about using a grendel on deer-sized game out to 250-300y, depending on the situation.

yeah i was lookin at 120gr at around 2500 or possibly a tad less for less recoil as hes a sook lol...

yeah copy on the 250 capability , 300 whatever, 200s plenty far enough for a hunt , less is preffered

So I went and did another pass over the chrono and they are in fact averaging around 2704fps. Only a 14fps spread for 10 rounds, very consistent powder. I posted this in a different thread on the 6.5 G on here but the puppy chewed up my load books earlier this year and the 2800 was off the top of my head. Close, no cigar!

I would have no concerns pushing the Grendel to 350-400 yards on deer when using the right loads. The Nosler 129gr ABLR is a great choice for Grendel use
