Exactly. Without a release that sticks out like a sore d!ck, just begging for an accidental release.
But since howa only has floorplates and this abomination, I hope for the floorplate.

Try a Safari Sling, carries just like it's in your hand but held by your shoulder plus the mags useful to maneuver the gun. I didn't like the mini's stock latch, it was right where my hand naturally touched the rifle when slung. Now that my mini is in a MDT chassis and it has MDT's latch it's a non issue. The only way to carry a gun IMHO if you like hand carry which I used to till I found the Safari Sling.
I like DBM like this for the range and Jeff Cooper fantasies. Detachable mags in general are good for work and boat/truck hunting, for serious hunting I prefer the floor plate like everyone else.
I’ve found that on the similarly boxed mag CZ 527 that I just wrap my hand in front of the mag and carry as normal. It’s more annoying to carry it on a sling and have the box digging into your back in reality. I’d honestly buy a medium length version in the same configuration for boats, work etc.

Had a mini Howa in 6.5 Grendell when they first came out, disliked the stock, however could have lived with that. The mag and mag release were not to my liking. Down the road it went.
