That looks pretty cool. I love the 7.62x39 in a bolt gun. I have the CZ 527. Did yours come with the detachable mag or was that an add-on item? What did it set you back?

Yes...it's quite cool indeed.

It's a nice companion for my CZ 527 carbine.

Action is not mauser like the 527. It's very much like a Sako bolt but with a beefier M16 style extractor.

The detachable mag is factory stock. And is available in Grendel caliber as well.

The rifle itself came with a Nikko scope as a factory package well under $900 all in to my door from Clay at Prophet River.

Well it's not exactly like a Rem 700....the Howa uses an M16 type extractor. Big difference in the way it would handle a case failure.

You are correct Hitzy.

I was going to go back to add some more detail.

In fact , other than the looks and push feed action, it's not really like the 700.

It more resembles a Sako bolt but the M16 extractor style on the Howa is beefier.

I just had mine arrive yesterday. It's got krypton pattern and ceracote. I haven't shot it yet. It's light 5and three quarter pounds. The barrel is very thin. It looks cheap the bottom metal and stock make my Tikka's seem deluxe. However it's still cool. I had assumed it was just a cut down 1500 action since it takes the same scope mounts but the top of the receiver ring is flattened to 700 and howa 1500 radius20161205_205355.jpg
1500 and mini bolt

Not since my last post.

It's been sub zero at the range and family events have kept me busy.
Hope to give it some more range time in a few weeks.

There's been a question about lacquered ammo.
Through my limited time with it , I only used Dominion 123 gr FMJ steel lacquered case and bi-metal bullet.
Fed flawlessly and as you can see in the target pic...pretty good accuracy. Mind you it's only 25m.

I'm looking for a rifle like this figure a 7.62x39 bolt gun would be a lot of cheap fun to plink with.

So the big question do you recommend buying a Howa or go for the CZ527?

Where did you buy and are they comparable in price?

Are these rifles available in left hand my son is blind in his right eye?

Are spare mags available?

Can you get them with a flush magazine? I find the protruding mag uncomfortable when slinging. I returned my Howa Alpine to the original flush mag for this reason.
