Howa Mini Action 7.62x39 W/ 20 Inch Heavy Barrel

You're are bang on about the performance of the Ruger rifles. There are a lot of YouTube videos that sing its praises. Maybe they will grow on me too. Never say never, cause that is what I said about Glocks, and now I own three.

That one worked the same way for me too!

Totally get why the Ruger feels like that though. It took me a while to start trusting it. And the pride of ownership def. comes from the groups it shoots, not holding it and working the action, etc lol.

If I had to bet which one spits out a piece of something first it still definitely aint the Howa lol. But so far so good with a lot of shooting on a few different rifles.

Don't avoid them. The solution is to change the bottom metal, and add CZ magazines.

What would be the total cost of that conversion? I know that the CZ mags are going for about $100 if you can find one. If one wants a spare mag he's into it for $200 without the aftermarket bottom.

OTOH .... I just bought the CZ instead. Me happy now. :)

Nice!! Happy to hear you snagged one.

As is, the rifle would be just fine. I realize that aftermarket parts are always costly, no matter what. Neverthless, when it's done it will be exactly what I want. As I've stated earlier in the post, most everything I own has had after market parts added. It's the nature of the beast when dealing with something that isn't custom. Take for example, a Glock. I think they are highly functional firearms straight from the factory. However, so many parts are substandard. These parts can be changed, or the firearm can be left as is. It's all about personal taste. As an as is rifle, I would take the CZ over the Howa. Though who knows, even the CZ might benefit from change. That said, I would take a customized Howa over a factory CZ.

I started with a cz 527 with 3 magazines(2 for $150shipped from the ee), then I added a howa + 527 conversion to share magazines. Then I ordered a few magazines from europe for a little cheaper then $75/ea - sold two at cost to another forum friend.
$143usd for the bottom metal.
So 2 rifles sharing 6 magazines. I mean with the rings and scope, the magazines aren't cheap but are usually priced better then my xbolt magazines.

The cz had the old style bolt handle and wouldn't clear my scope in the rings I had. So I picked up a glades armory bolt handle from the EE.
That worked but was large and I think the extend handle kind of exacerbated the binding that some 527s have with running the bolt.
Grabbed a new style bolt handle from numrich, and it clears the scope and the bolt cycles with less bind now.

I like them both. The howa needs a better stock.

I know I'm rambling but I like these rifles. Been fun messing with them.

Both the Howa and CZ would be much better served with a hinged bottom from the factory, or at least a shorter flush magazine that won't fall out.

Guess again! :)

Name one advantage a DBM has over a hinged bottom on a sporting rifle. :)

Typically it's quicker to insert a loaded magazine then top load loose cartridges and is a clear advantage in some instances.....how much that means to a person is personal.

That be true, but most folks load up long before they need to shoot at game. The only noise they make after that is switching the safety off. :)

I've shot a couple deer when unprepared while having to single load from my pocket. No big lol.

Much prefer the handling characteristics of a rifle without a magazine stickin out of it. Have never noticed DBM to be superior in any way for a hunting rifle.
