Simple question, many answers I'm sure...
I've got a thing for the action scaled to caliber and I'm considering either 7.62x39 or 6.5 Grendel.
The CZ 527 is 1st choice but it's silly spendy, so I'm left with the Howa mini.
I'm a big fan of wood over synthetic but was hoping for a thumbhole stock for this one.
The picture of the wood stock at Prophet River doesn't impress me but what I see everywhere else looks good.
Are the Howa wood stocks nice or not?
Can we get barreled actions in Canada?
Is there a thumbhole stock available?
Can a stock be imported by me from the USA?
Is there stainless bottom metal available?

Not sure which way I'm going to go but it seems I need to either buy new or jump on a good deal when I see it.

For the price of a howa and boyds stock, you could just buy a cz 527, if you can find one
I wanted a wood stock for the howa mini I had but gave up on it. The factory wood option on photos looks cheap. Having a boyds stock in walnut and shipped to Canada was a few hundred at least.
Add in another couple hundred for the bottom metal upgrade from Jefferson outdoors(so i could use cz527 mags)

You're probably a good bit past the cost of a cz 527
Sold it and replaced it with a sako ai in 17rem, real purdy

Theres some crazy asking prices for the 527, the ones under 1500 are a bit more reasonable. But that's just my opinion.

You may also consider the Zastava/remington 799
Also have a look at the cz 600 american in 7.62x39 out there. A bill over $1k
I have no experience with either, just options I also considered.

Is the CZ 600 scaled appropriately or wrong size action for the 7.62?

I had a CZ527,scope mounting options are not good,if you want to get the scope low.
You have to run a scope with a small ocular barrel, limits scope choice.
Also mine did not feed well.
I have a CZ 457 and it's one of my favorite rifles,i like CZ's in general.
Sold it and bought a Howa mini action and put it in a Bell and Carlson M40,i like the gun.
I also have a Howa Superlight in .243 Win which came with a walnut stock.
The stock didn't look great in the Prophet River photos, but i was pleasantly surprised when it arrived.
International Shooting Supply has some barreled actions.

If you send me the action and pay for material I'll make you a stock.

Hey man, saw your post about making a custom wooden stock for the Howa mini action.
What would you charge for such a project?
What kind of materials?
I’m a cabinet maker by trade but this seems a bit beyond my scope.

Thanks for any insight!
