Good enough to be a candidate for a custom stock. One-piece 2 lug bolts and very strong machined actions--well trued from the factory.
Note: The barrels are torqued tight!

I have a Howa 1500 HB stainless in 22-250 and the trigger is great. The gun is sub moa with almost any weight bullet.

I also had a Weatherby Vanguard in 223 (same rifle basically) and it was also a good value good shooting gun. Sold that one to fund a 300 RUM rig. In hindsight, I should have keep the Weatherby AND got the RUM.

Nice rifles, well made. Crisp 2 stage trigger, they’re shooters. As said way nicer out the box than a new production 700 these days.

Howa 1500 - Weatherby Vanguards are good rifles - SOME a Little HEAVY for sporters thou - I have a 1500 - vanguard action custom build in a 416 Taylor -Works WELL ! I also have a Howa 1500 mini in 6.5 Grendel - I like it a LOT ! RJ

Who is making aftermarket barrels for these up here? I heard they are metric threads and that makes it less common for prefits?

I have the mini action in 7.62X39. Dead nuts accurate with my handloads and good deer medicine. If I have one complaint, the magazine release spring is too light. It will drop the magazine without you noticing if you're in the bush and you happen to hit it, even very lightly. I lost a mag during the fall hunt and didn't find it again until the spring. Fortunately, I had a spare rifle and I've since obtained a spare mag for the Howa.

I was going to say the same thing.

As for barrel changes--not a particularly costly job for a qualified Smith. Any barrel blank can be threaded and installed. Pre-fit barrels are not the end all be all.

How'd you find the Vanguard on the range? I like the price/performance of the Howa 1500 action, and it'll probably only be used on the range. Right now I can only find a Weatherby Vanguard in .223, but I'm not sure if the sporter barrel will stay accurate compared to a varmint/heavy barrel.

JC and IBI both making pre-fit barrels for the Howa 1500.

I have a Howa 1500 mini action in 7.62x39 and its a great rilfe.
Its not as good as my Tikka t3 but since i paid half of the cost I can't complain. Ive used Chinese Surplus 7.62x39 ammo and im getting a little less then 1moa at 100 yards.
