Howdy, from Iowa (USA)

jaythedogg: Just as I suspected (despite your initial dancing around the issue) you are a convicted felon, thus you can not legally obtain/possess firearms in the USA. Please don't let the screen door hit you in the butt as you leave America. As for my Canadian friends, beware the wolf in sheep's clothing (and prepare for a lot of lame excuses for past criminal behavior).

:DX 2:slap: Buuuuut, I didn't want to say anything:)

Welcome. I have a few Iowa cousins on this board. Are you any where near Muscatine, Nichols, Montezuma, Ottumwa or the tri corner area?

Compared to Cali, Canada's gun laws are more restrictive in some situations. In some, Cali's suck.

To me, Iowa is OK. My 66 year cousin keeps an AK under her bed. If you are looking for lax gun control, Canada is not the answer. Toronto is a no-no especially.

Hell, another 2 years and it'll be florida, nevada or new mexico for me.

PS: Stay away from TO. The experiment in social re-engineering has failed. And if you have guns forget it.

Yes, Muscatine is 20-30 min away, Nichols is a little bit further, as it is just past Musky. I live in Davenport, part of the Quad Cities.

I hope your cousin's AK is semi auto only, anything else & your cousin would be facing federal time for having full auto.

As far as guns period... Canada will allow me to just have a gun, when my "good old USA" will NOT.

Forida has already banned assault rifles of all kinds. Handguns are slowly disappearing too. Nevada has some SERIOUS restrictions & bans & New Mexico... Own a gun? Good luck getting a state permit there without being a cop.

The USA is slowly cutting away our rights as well. Look at what is in front of the Supreme Courts now... The effort to try to amend the 2nd Amendment to ban personal ownership of Firearms period.

If that happens, then Canada better thank it's lucky stars, cuz your laws will seem like glorious heaven.

Forgive me if I misunderstand, but is this comment here supposed to claim that I want to move to Canada & start lying about my background to everyone to gain their trust?

I could just be a noob & taking this totally out of context. Forgive me if the latter is correct.

Edit: In case you were really wonder, you can check me at iowacourtsonline.com or simply:

Although I see little point in this, as I shouldn't need to prove myself, nor should it matter. What would be the point of lying on these forums? Lying to you guys wouldn't get me moved to Canada, get me citizenship or a PAL anyway.

That one surprised me a bit, too. Must have been a misunderstanding  Anyway, most of OUR violent criminals have graduated to handguns. (I can't remember the last time a 7-11 was held up with a slingshot.)

Welcome aboard!

I feel like I know Iowa quite well. I certainly support the local economy a since an embarrassing amount of my free income seems to go to a small town called Montezuma :D-hope to visit somedays and I figure a welcome banner would not be out of order.;):p

Seriously, if guns and shooting/hunting are an important part of your life, I suggest you avoid Ontario (especially Toronto) and Quebec like the plague. If you don't mind the winters the only Ontario exception is Northwestern Ontario (Thunder Bay to Kenora) where the fishing and hunting are awesome. Gun laws here are federal ( which can be a double edged sword depending on who's in power) but run provincially - and anti-gun provincial politicians can harass gunwoners mercilesslty with stupid administrative rules and interpretations.

Is there any way you can get a pardon for your conviction and get your gun possession ban lifted?

There seems to be an annoying habit lately on CGN for guys to go on a bit of a "witch-hunt".
Several other threads have been shut down in the past, due to some members jumping to all sorts of unproven conclusions.
There is no need for this.

There is nothing nice about the weather here except for the mild winter. In the summer time, the temperatures can be misleading. The humid south western Ontario summers make it feel like the gates of hell have opened up and rained hellfire upon the earth. You will want to die if you are like me.

IOWA wow spent a week there each fall re NRA NPSC in Des Moines...Boy it does it look like southern Ontario Corn every where. Was at the National Guard Base in Des Moines area. I think I was there 6 times over 7 years. during the 1980's.

Heat doesn't bother me so much. :)

Thanks for the feedback though.

@Buck45:

I've been by that base, back when I worked for the energy company.

Iowa sucks IMHO.
