Howdy from Moose Jaw!

Hello everyone.

Been browsing for a while, made an account, and thought I should stop and say hi!

I finally got around to going out and taking my firearm safety courses, took both the non restricted and restricted. And am now just doing my homework and research before I make my first Real Steel Purchase.

Been hunting off and on with Family since I was about 13 in Northern Ontario, been playing (yes most of you will cring on this) Airsoft for over 10 years. Although I tread them the same as I would a real firearm, they travel in locked gun cases, and are locked in a cabinet once back home.

Hoping to join a couple local gun clubs in the Moose Jaw/Regina areas to get to know the local community more.

I travel all across Canada for work, so who knows I may cross paths with several of you over the next few years.

Kip.

Yeah, welome aboard. And don't worry about airsoft, paintball, laser tag, whatever. These are legitimate sports, just like trap or skeet (or soccer, or baseball). So long as you're responsible and don't go shooting at people waiting at the bus stop, you're merely exercising your right to enjoy the legal activities of your choice.

If you've been browsing our little community, you probaby know by now we don't make any apologies for being firearms enthusiasts. Quite the contrary, for some of us. Speaking for myself, I never miss an opportunity to talk about guns - especially with people who are ignorant of the subject. Taking large groups of secretaries, housewives, children, and guys who've never been to a range out for a day of shooting is especially gratifying.

Hope you enjoy sharing knowledge and ideas with the regulars here.

Hmmm, you lucky guy Bloodsport. Welcome to CGN, you live in an area that I was posted to for almost 11 years!
Excellent deer/coyote/gopher shooting to be had there.

Do yourself a favor and get into something you can use in the Shotgun Zone for deer hunting as well.
Not far away from you is a little ridge of hills called the Cactus Hills, on the prairies near Avonlea. You cannot miss it.
(beware the low lying ground cactus, often too late found after quickly going to prone for a better shot!)
On the flats good gopher shooting, and on that hill overlooking the old brick factory, awesome deer hunting, and be aware that cougars have been known to haunt those hills, following peek deer populations....

Like anywhere else, a good repore with the local farmers goes along way for your opportunities as a hunter. (translation responsible coyote shooting in cattle/sheep pasture, often opens the door to deer season)

So buy that R.M. map of land ownership, and use it like a good hunter should.

Welcome to the wild wild west!

Welcome aboard! :D
Sounds like you've got your stuff together.
If your travels bring you to the K-W area, drop us a line. There are a few of us that will try to meet up... maybe even a trip to the range? :p
Cool avatar, by the way! ;)

Ditto on the Shotgun/Primitive Firearms opportunities in the Regina Moose Jaw zone. The season is really long and the deer are plentiful. More chances of learning how to stalk and sit when you have months to practise, than 3 weeks in late November for the rifle season.

Try GK gunsmithing on Grafton St in MJ for your muzzleloader. There are gun shows all over the province where you can find just about any hunting rifle you want.

I don't know about pistol shooting in the area any more. That are clubs with restricted ranges, but a lot depends on what shooting style you want to do. The IPSC community is probably small, but their matches are always fun.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, heh heh I was born in Moose Jaw as well just lived away from it for a good portion of my life till I moved back home 4 years ago. My family has been around MJ since it started.

I have not yet had a chance to find the local range, but I hear there is a club on South Hill which I'm going to check out. As well there is 3 around the Regina area. As for shops, T&T in Regina is pretty much the only real one I know of other then good old WallyWorld and CTC. But I will have to go check out GK when I fly home from Ottawa next Friday (woot for 2 weeks of Vacation finally!).

Going to be in Edmonton for a couple of days near the end of the month, so will probably stop by a few of the shops up there and check out prices and such. Going to do some homework before I make my first purchases, especially for my restricted as I'd like to make sure I get something I'll be comfortable with and enjoy at the range.

I'd like to go and take one of the hunting safety course before I get back into it, as it has been several years since I went out. And the only real steel shooting I've done in the past few years has been at the range in the West Edmonton mall.
