Hows the fishing every where else?

Fishing is good this year on Lake Simcoe, caught the limit twice- best Whitefish for me so far is 5.5 lbs using a small minnow on a homemade tip-up rig. The guys in the next hut did better, they got into Whitefish and some laketrout too aided by a fishfinder.

Wow Onno, I wish we still had perch that big up here, just can't seem to find them anymore, they all must take off to the warmer waters your way.

:D :D I wish!

MD, you win some and you lose some, I need(love to) to go north every year for the moose...;)

Ice fishin'

These pics of getting out with the kids are a treat! It's just great to see you folks making outdoor activities part of the kids' life from an early age!

Good on ya!

I forgot to ask about this--does a fishfinder function through ice or do you bore a hole and set it up over that?

There is a specific fish finder for ice fishing. You can place the thing-a-majig, on the ice and it gives you a reading or you can bore a hole and stick it in.

Not G and N but I know Frank and Abby.

Went to school with Frank who's now an O.P.P. in the Thessalon Detachment, he's a good #### and he also does the P.A.L. courses up here. His dad Abby I've worked with a few times, he floats our big machinery around for us alot.

I think I know Frank, I met him having coffee with my uncle Howard. He was the constable who used to help my gramma before she passed.

Ice fishing is over till next year for me. We have had temps well above freezing, and a lot of rain. I did manage to get ouy last Sunday though. I had a slow morning, with only 3 small perch, but got into a good sized school of them around lunch time and by moving a couple of times I was able to stay with them. Mostly small ones, not much bigger than Redmandan's (and a couple about the same),but I did manage to get enough bigger ones for a meal. I was having a hard time trying to run two lines, they were biting so good.

Hey GH, Maddog was HUNTING for fish at his HUNTING CAMP, I think it is on topic...

Certs is a breath mint!

Certs is a Candy Mint!

Hold it, you're both right, Certs is two, two, two mints in one!"

(A bit of nostalgia for older folks who saw those commercials in the 60s...)

The fishing was great here until a month and a half ago. The snow came in, the weather warmed and the ice is no longer safe. I did manage to stock up a few feeds of fat perch. I tried to get out a week ago and the ice went from bad to worse. There is 18 inches of snow covering 6 inches of slush over 14 inches of really soft ice. a few days ago a local fella went through on his sled, near a bridge, it's never really thick there but he tried, at least he was only waist deep in water when he went through. Time to dust off the Lund and get ready for the soft water season.

On the contrary, this is predator season!!:D

(I've jsut started this year....);)

Doug,m those 2 mints in one comercials must hve been orm the 70's, since I remmeber tham and I was not able to watch TV in the 60's.;)

Back to Gatehouse............hmmmm, I would have bet they were '60s ads. I watched zero TV after 1973 (when I joined the army), and almost none after 1971 when I got a driver's licence. They were a LONG running set of ads, always featured twins, generally VERY attractive female twins............
