Hows the grouse count this year in your area?

Been using the new CZ exclusively this season. The pic is from a couple of weeks ago when all I could find was darkies. Ruffies are coming on strong now, shot five today.

Three more, two others got away.

None in Sudbury. Lots further north. Managed to get 26 with Mrs. Cannon third week of October. Mainly blacks. I think around 20 blacks, 6 greys.

One for me so far, yielded 33lbs of ground. Pitlampers have been busy and I doubt I get another one this year. Cotton tails are around.... I know a spot where there is another grouse as I passed on the mate - but its 5 hours from here.

Mrs. Cannon & I got 10 in our first hour out of the week. We even saw some en route to where we clean the birds that we had to pass by (in Ontario, 5 each is bag limit). Best year ever for them. Already ate some, too - partridge stir-fry!

Oh yes, Mrs. Cannon is French, so every bird - partridge, grouse, pheasant, helicopters, - they're all "partridge".

33 lbs of ground is a BIG grouse for sure. What is a "pitlamper" ? Not doing the google thing

33 lbs of venison (because I am a Chianti kind of guy - tongue in cheek). Pitlampers are characters that like to use lights and shoot outside legal shooting hours. They are common in our area unfortunately.

Here's a few from the last month, still seeing a lot in my area in the lower elevations away from the snow.

Nice catch and a tasty looking meal. Also nice to see that someone else enjoys the dark meat. Too good to leave in the bush with feathers and guts.

I'm curious about your 2nd photo though. You hunt partridge with slugs? :)

I'm assuming that's BB's version of covering all his options. When I go I have bird shot in one pocket and slugs in the SG as in certain areas of BC legal bear/deer is slug.
