Maybe this only applies to the prairies but this Sept has been incredibly hot for this time of year. I've been out with the bow for a while now the game sure seems to be holding deep in the cover.

Went for elk and saw lots but the bulls just weren't calling at all. Got a couple in to about 150 yrds with a cow call but thats it. ( A bit far for the bow;)

Very little moving around my deer stand just a pair of fawns with their mama and a bear that took a big dump on my bait just to say hello

Finally tonight I started seeing deer coming out on the field edges.

This heat sure seems to have affected the animals. Has anyone else noticed this ?

I'm noticing a lack of deer in "undisclosed location" this year compared to the same time as other years. Not affecting my hunting.....haven't started yet. Hurry up November.

It sucks, my son got a nice mulie on an inclement day over the Sept long weekend during youth season. A friend stayed afield for the first 10 days of GOS and saw nothing, not even does.

Tried for elk, never saw anything or heard a shot. Not many new birds in the area, some but not many. Not hearing many other hunters in my duck spots either. Usually you will hear shooting from all over the place in the distance, I think I heard three shots last Night, and maybe three others in another spot a week ago. And as for the skeeters, goddamn their starting to piss me off. They keep promising frost but it never gets cold enough. But the season is young and to be truthful I don't really care if I shoot anything. I enjoy shooting more with the camara and just walking with the gun. Coming home to dress birds in the dark isn't the best way to spend a Night. (Although I did get the Wife to do it for me once, can't see that happening again)

Yeah I agree, The heat has it all screwed up this year. Went for a week elk hunting trip and didn't hear a thing. Seen 3 cows and 3 calfs out grazing at 2:30 in the afternoon on the last day. Try again next week, hunt up high and in the trees!!!!

The dawn and dusk thing is what I've been taught as well but the last few years I'm starting to wonder. I've seen most animals out from about 8:30 to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. Granted you'll find them out in the open in the fields in the pre dawn and last fading light but they seem really active in the perimeter areas at the times listed.

It was bright sunshine and hot when I saw deer out feeding yesterday.

Postponed my sheep hunt last week thinking it would cool down. Am considering postponing this week. It would be nice to hunt in shorts(or naked) but in the off chance we take one, I would like to see single digits.

I don't know, not many geese, but just shoot the mosquitos instead! There pretty big and after you fill them with blood they make a pretty good mess!!

Dog can't find them to bring em back though.

Aside from sweatin our butts off putting out the dekes and blinds no problem so far. Got a hell of a tan, looks like I vacationed on the Riviera, lol! But we had no problem killing geese and saw alot of wildlife in the fields and along the bush/field edges.

I just built a bear stand today. Weather was cool in the morning, but hot as hell in the afternoon. I will monitor the area for a few days, and wait for the heat to die down before hunting.

went down to the marsh tonight to shoot a few ducks to give the dog some work, sprayed myself twice for mosquitoes and swore I am not going back until we get some frost.
