How's this heat wave effecting your hunting

I'm itching to get out something fierce, but am holding off until it cools substantially. Daytime highs have been in the high 20's all month... far to warm for me!

Heat wave!!!!

Just returned from a week in hell / elk hunting in Carrot river Sask.,:30 C daytime highs and night-time lows in the mid 20 s . No elk to be found only coyotes and black bears everywhere , The worst mosqito count that I have ever seen , had to hunt wearing head nets or risk going insane from the stinging , drilling , buzzing winged spawn of satan . But aside from that it was still a week of Hunting !!!

I feel your pain bro. I was sweating like a pig when I was out in bow season for elk. We saw a lot of animals but what the hell would you do if you downed one. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it we never had that problem.

However it would not hurt my feelings if it didn't get cold. Hunting at -20 is getting tough on the old bones.

Been very, very good so far :)

Dang it, you're a tease. Why can't you be more like TBartell with pictures and stuff, huh?:p:D Some of us gotta live vicariously for a bit yet!;)

As for the weather affecting my hunting... won't know til a couple more weeks. And then come November we have plans to get serious about it all, hopefully it'll have cooled down by then.

The heat is terrible for hunting but sure is nice for drying thing up around home. It’s been such a wet year that I just cant get to my hunting spots. This past 2 weeks has been nothing but summer weather and my field is finally finished. Now it’s time to hunt...

Ive stalled Bear hunting until its cooler. It got up to 27 Sunday.....Game birds only last weekend.

Im not sure how it affected the animals aside from the fact I saw none.......Bears are still feeding as usual no change there.

Went out last night for first Archery Moose hunt of the year(rifle and muzzleloader is open as well:mad:), and wouldn't you know it...some idiot rifle hunters stopped on the trail/road about 1 mile away from me and decided to shoot some targets at around 6 P.M.(in the middle of prime Moose country). Dead calm evening....no wind....and the echo of 12-15 high powered rifle shots going off.

When I ran into them on the quad they asked me if I was hunting....? It is Moose season, some guy is in full Camo(orange vest) riding a quad in the middle of nowhere.:rolleyes: and some guys wonder why they never see or get a Moose? To boot...they are not even dressed in their hunting colors required by law....I never looked but assumed they had been drinking because that is what alot of idiots do around where I hunt....drink, drive, and hunt chickens and carry centerfire in case they see a Moose...LOL!

I quickly vacated that area and moved to another good spot about 4 miles away and set-up to do some calling.

Bugs(first Sandflys.....then closer to evening Mosquitos) really put the hurt on me.

Even with headnet on they still chased me into my ground-blind.

Standing outside the only thing I could hear was bugs buzzing in my ear....kinda makes it hard to hear any distance responses from Moose!!!!:(

Moose has been open here since Sept 1st., usually the last 5 days of Sept. and first week of Oct. are peak of the rut. So things should get a little better.

It is suppose to cool off around 5-6 of Oct. But if it snows it will probably shut the rut down for a few days. Looks like it will be a small window. There has been sign that Moose are moving but I am guessing it is in evening and at night. One of my favorite spots had fresh Wolf tracks over top of and following Moose tracks....

It is only getting down to 10 at night. No frosts yet. Farmers must be loving this weather?

Got drawn for archery elk and spent 1 whole day hunting! The mosquitos just about picked me up and carried me away. I don't think I've ever seen the bugs that bad in archery season. On top of vthat the heat kept the animals in the bush and they were only calling after dark. Heading out for moose this weekend hope it cools down or w3e'll be scrambling to get our meat cooled down.

Usually we have had a frost by now. Took this pic of my poor dog second day of waterfowl season. I forgot the deet in the truck, but we managed a few ducks.

There are some deer moving down here in the south but I'm more worried about what to do with the animal once I get it. I can cool it off in the truck with ice but I like to let it hang for at least a day before I butcher it. How the hell can you do that when it hits 32 degrees in the shade?

No problem with heat during our elk hunt. We got two on the morning of Sept 20th, one that evening and one monday morning. Elk were moving, feeding and calling like normal, and the only downside was the mosquitoes. Daytime temperatures were 25-28C so it was good that we had our walk-in cooler in camp!
