Well i got my 870 knock of the other day. I cleaned ever thing out and oiled her.

I took it out for the first time yesterday. and it doesnt seem to be cycling well. What i encounter is mostly jaming and the extracter not expelling the used round.

What would you guys think is the most likely gremlin.

Thanks for your help.

HP-9 problems

what ammo are you using
I find that that silver based winchester does not work very well in anything
I find winchester double A v heavy trap ,challenger federal work well.
good luck

My HP-1 did the same thing when I first got it. Have a look inside the reciever at the ejector and the spring. Mine was very thin and the spring didn't have the flat bend in it where the case rim would meet the ejector.

Arwen Ace was able to replace the Norinco parts with factory Remington. It took a bit more than a simple replacement as one of the chinese rivits is undersized.

The good news is it's a fairly cheap fix. The bad news is it also leaves a mess on the left side of the reciever as the rivits need to be peened into place. It's hidden by a side saddle.

IMHO Norinco would have been better to copy the Mossberg/Maverick receiver, and throw a 14" barrel on it. As the extractor is removable with one screw, and it has an open floor lifter.

I had the same thing happening to mine, the empty shell would not come out of the ejection port, it turned out that the ejector spring had a twist in it which was letting the shell slide down instead of flipping it out. Take a look and see if thats what's happening to yours. I ended up getting some pliers and bending it back straight, no problems since. I would only eject 2 or 3 out of 5 before I fixed it.

Check to see if the forend is hitting the receiver. I had this problem with my HP9-1, I just used a piece of plastic to space the distance. Without this fix, it was basically short stroking EVERY time.

here's another one: on mine, the little spring that holds the next round in the tube fails to engage occasionally. So, when this happens, that round gets thrown out of the bottom port when I cycle it, instead of being chambered. Not cool.... this is my bear gun! Ammo choice doesn't seem to matter, although I'm almost exclusively using federal 3" slugs and buck.

Is this a simple case of some bending needed? or an easy replacement? This is the only gun of mine that I haven't lovingly taken apart completely to lean every little function, or spend days reading about on the net. So I'm a little confused about this one. Cheers!

It is closing all the way. I put some Kent 2 3/4 #4 turky shot in. The first round faild to extract and after that 3 round went through without a hitch.

Im going to take a look and see if the spring in the extractor is binded.

I also find that the plug that push's the rounds to the lift sticks out to far sometimes and the lift gets caught in the up position.

So far i realy am not to happy with this thing. it came in the mail looking like its been through Iraq.

Well its offical its a jam-omatic.

Not pleased at all. This is 1 of only 3 firearms i have bought sence i resieved my PAL about a month ago.

Rifle will not eject shells properly, The plug that push's the round out of the mag gets caught on the lift gate and the rifle over all looks bad ie scratchs ware the hole deal.

I hope the dealer i got this from will be easy to deal with and not tell me to go hope myself.

Rant off.

One of the causes, and most common, is the operator isn't being agressive enough, when racking the slide, to eject the case.

Try being more agressive and make sure that you aren't shortstroking.

And my bolt and carrier are jamed in an occward angle now. lol

Called up the dealer and they told me they would exchange it for an other if need be :D

Did you try to disassemble and reassemble to see if the carrier, plate and bolt were properly in place to begin with? If you managed to not have them aligned properly and got the carrier in, I am not surprised that you are unable to eject.

Take pics and post.

Well i did disassemble and reassemble after the first and second trip outside.
The third time every thing got jamed up and i cant ever get the bolt/carrier out.
