Good day gentalmen ! I have a ques for you I was out just driving around checking out the gunshops and I came across one with a HS Precision 308 for sale in it! having the soft heart I have I fell in love. I was woundering what these rifles actually go for the tag on it said 3475.00 for just the rifle and the man behind the counter kept on saying that he was letting it go for under cost. Since I didnt take a pic heres what it looked like. Tan stock adjustable cheek and butt with a thumbhole the barrel is 20'' flutted matte black and detachable mag. Is it worth it????? Thanks for your time.

You're well into custom gun territory. How much is time worth to you? Figure at least 6 months to acquire components and have the work done.

Personally, I would spend half that and have something that is uniquely my own.

It worth if you willing to pay that much, They are beautiful and I know what you mean, I kind of like the 24" fluted barrel.

LOL there not selling it under cost. That's a joke.
For half the cost you can build something just as accurate and custom tailored to you.
There nice rifles but not THAT nice.

Best Regards,
Tim

They probably are selling it under cost if it really is an HS Precision. Those rifles are expensive, and then there are the importation fees. Having said that, only you can decide if the price is worth it to you. As others have said, you can have a rifle put together to your own spec for that much $$$.

I think that this same rifle now retails at $4700.00. P&D in Edmonton have 2 lightly used HS's on consignment, black stocks with same ajustable stock but no thumbhole. I think there is one with a longer barrel than the other and they want $2950.00 each for them. Fs

I have 2 HS rifles, a 308 and a 204 Ruger. Both great shooters and I love their triggers. For the money they cost you would expect them to be great shooters. FS

I don't know what the wholesale and retail prices of H&S rifles are, but they are legitimately good gear (and also, as you've seen, very expensive). If the configuration of that rifle is exactly what you want (e.g. stock, barrel length, etc), then you could consider buying it, after you look into how sane that price is. If it isn't what you exactly want, e.g. maybe you want a longer barrel, or a somewhat different stock, or a single shot, or a detachable magazine repeater, etc, instead of buying that rifle you might as well get exactly what you want built for you.

H-S definitely well built with great components. 700 style action, with Winchester style 3position safety(blocks firing pin), Sako style extractor, cut rifled barrel and best factory trigger I have every used. H-S stocks and bottom metal/mag speak for themselves. Much better resale % than custom built Remmy.

As far as accurracy, a competent gunsmith and a quality barrel/action/stock can easily reproduce similar if not better accuracy. This will also take time probably more than 6 months. Depends on your wants/needs time and $.

I saw a few H-S at the Dawson Creek gun show the new 2009 .308's(HTR's) P&D had wore $3900+ price tags, and Corelane had a 6.5-284 HTR style for $4900. I think $3495 is a very fair price for a new(09) RDR/HTR. Unfortunately all new gun (09) prices have gone up +20% due the US dollar. When the guns retail for over $3000 that makes a big difference!

I won't get in a debate on whether or not an H-S is a better deal than a custom barreled rig, been there done that. That's up to you to decide. Good luck!

A quote from 280_Ackley: "you can polish a piece of sh*t all day long, but in the end you still have a piece of sh*t!"

Owned one, shot it a bunch, then sold it. Verdict, they are accurate and well built. However, you can get a custom rifle built for that cash, and knowing what I know now, that would be my recommendation. But, ultimately, its your money thus you buy what your heart longs for. If your dead set on that gun, and its in good shape / looked after, then enjoy.

U can get a custom rifle for that kind of money but i probably understand how u fell if ur like me . I saw one as well at CRAFM :a .308 HTR with the black stock , adjustable cheek , muzzle brake , detachable mag , fluted barrel ..... for 4000$ .It looks awsome and for someone who doesnt know s**t about precision rifle that s what i would get, mostly for esthetics !!! You probably saw the RDT wich retails for 3070$ US , same as the HTR . In my mind , it s probably an ok deal since CRAFM is selling the HTR for 4K . But im not sure because the HTR i saw came with the muzzle brake wich is a 220$US extra . One thing im pretty sure is that he s not selling it to u below cost .

The whole in this case is definitely greater than the sum of all its parts. this set-up can be reproduced with the best components money can buy for less money than this "costs".

It's nice kit, but you are paying a premium for what you actually get.

I believe I know of the rifle in question. It was ordered in for a guy who got cold feet and bailed on it due to the large increase in price due to the dollar exchange. I believe it is the Rapid deployment rifle
