I had one, I'm not a huge fan of it only because of the range of magnification. I used to hunt my rifle and starting at 6.5x doesn't lend well close in shots. Other than that they are a great scope and for any type of bench shooting they would work well. They are a top quality scope and I've never had any issues with them.

for hunting and ranges out to 800 meters a 4 1/2 to 14 Mark 4 would serve you well... Luppies are a top optic and you can't go wrong with any of their high end scopes...
 
Once you are trying to cover target and hunting, you are compromising. Like Ivo said, 6.5 is a bit crazy for hunts. Even if you have a long range kill zone picked out that you are going to wait at, you will probably have to cover a fair bit of huntable ground on the way in. Lower magnification would be your friend.

The way that I solved this is Leupolds 4.5-14x40mm Mark4:

There are many similar scope, but most have a 50mm tube, and are considerably heavier, which sucks when you are having to lug the rifle back.
 
I think you guys have your powers a bit screwed up. You can get a 8.5-25X, 6.5-20X or 4-14X in the Mark 4 (I have one of each) and the night force is either 8-32X, 5.5-22X or 3.5-15X.

As for what you plan on doing with the rifle I would go with 6.5-20X Mark 4 or the 5.5-22X NSX. 8 power is a bit to high for me as a base power and 14 is too low for the high end so that only leaves one option.

how is the leopold 6.5-20 for low light ? night force 5.5-22 better? ps screwed power range up {brain strain from surfing the net} haha
 
I can not compare the 2. I have fondled the NSX in the store and that is about it. The 6.5-20 is way better than any Bushnell I have owned. And as far as on paper the twilight factor will be better for the 6.5-20 than 8.5-25. You can't go wrong with any Leupold or Nightforce in my opinion. I just like being able use 6.5 power if the need be. If you see an animal at 50 yards with an 8.5 you might just see hair.
 
I have owned the Leupold Mark 4 PR 4.5-14x40, as well as the Nightforce NXS models 3.5-15x50, and 5.5-22x50. For the price the Mark 4 PR is a great scope and you would not be disappointed. However the Nightforce NXS scopes are heavier built, feel bomb proof, and are slightly brighter. If you're trying to save a few bucks on a high end tactical scope go with the Mark 4 PR (Precision Rifle), however if you want close to Schmidt & Bender like quality in a bomb proof, simple to use, military grade scope, then buy the Nightforce. IMHO.

And don't forget about how the illuminated reticle works and the choice of an MOA based reticle for the NSX. I think my next tactical scope will be a Nightforce. The only thing I don't like is how the eye piece turns when adjusting magnification so flip ups are out of the question but that is no big deal.
