Looking for general opinions.

Slowly putting together a compact rig with a Remington 700 16.5" AAC-SD. I've tried and tried to get warm to the Magpul and it's just not doin' it for me no matter how hard I attempt to like it.

I own an early LTR so very familiar with it's HS Precision. Might hunt down a used LTR stock or a B&C on the E&E.

How does it compare to a B&C M40 Long Range or another suitable model ? Obviously the ACC-SD requires an Hbar profile.

The HS & B&C seem very similar, not light weight but solid. Any other thoughts appreciated.

Got the same rem action 16.5 .308 in a Magpul and mag bottom and works perfect and reasonable price., 168 gr. Bergers making
1/4 moa what's not to like

HS LTR stock all the way. The B&C M40 is ok but will be a little larger and bulkier feeling. The M40 is better suited for a longer barreled rifle. I put a LTR stock on the same rifle in 223. I also put one on a VTR in 243. The LTR stock is a little slimmer and has a shorter fore end. It's a perfect fit for a compact rifle. HS builds a better stock than B&C period. I've had two B&C stocks and sold them both. Fore end had flex in it and barrel channels were not aligned perfectly. HS builds a SOLID stock and has better QC.

I don't have the 16.5" .223 here right now or I'd post a pic of it too but here's a pic of the VTR with the LTR stock. A nice slim sleek easy to carry solid stock. Made a nice rifle and a great shooter out of it.

You'll like the LTR stock on that short little rifle you've got.

Now that's exactly the type of info I was looking for. Thanks jiffx2781. Stock looks great on the VTR btw.

Thanks. Sorry I couldn't post a pic of the shorty in the LTR stock for you to see. I've loaned it out to a friend who is fairly new to guns. He said it felt and balanced good for him so I'm letting him learn on it for a bit.

I got both LTR stocks from a guy I know who had a 223 and a 308 and decided to put them both into a chassis instead.
Keep your eye open on the EE. I've seen the odd one. Or post a WTB add. Good luck.

You say you own a LTR rifle still so why don't you switch stocks and see how it feels before you put money out.

Yeah I might swap stocks for a bit to check it out. Just figured I'd enquire about other common options.

I'm assuming the barrel channel on the LTR stocks is the same for the .223 & .308 ?

Nice of you to lend a friend one of your rifles for awhile.

Yes barrel channel is the same. It will fit right on for you no problem.

As far as lending a newbie a rifle goes it's a small thing to do for someone if it gets them into shooting or hunting.

Ok great, thanks for the confirmation on the barrel channel. Have to start looking for one now.

You're a better man then I ! Not sure I'd trust my friends with my rifles ... lol. Actually I'm just joking. Have lent a couple to some licensed friends to get them further interested. The more into this stuff the better.
