This might be a dumb question; but is there a way of stripping down a HS Gen 2 magazine? I’ve got an older or well used one that the spring seems to be a little weak on, and its the kind of thing I’d try to stretch or massage if I could get it apart. I can only speculate whats hiding under that rubber boot bottom.

The bottom of the box doesn’t come off like a normal mag. You tip the follower down in the rear and it slides forwards between the two little tabs and the front wall of the mag. Some are a bit tight and you need to put a bit of side angle on them as well. They are a bit of a pita.
Yep; it worked. 
Its easier to get a bit more aggressive when you know you're on the right track. I stretched the spring out a bit, and smoothed out the follower on the front end where it was a bit rough and tight. It works like a new one now.
