I was looking on the MNR site today since I have to renew my small games and fishing licence for next year and noticed something.
In the past I thought all licences included GST. We now get charged an extra 13% on top of the 5% already added in the past. So 18% tax instead of just the 13% or am i missing something?

Example: Regular deer licence before July 1st $38.86
After July 1st $38.86 X 1.13 = $43.91

A mistake by the MNR? I think not

Was that original 5% some kind of habitat tax or fee?

The whole thing is a tax.

Convincing people to pay tax twice over on a third tax. You've got to admit, that's bad*ss.

Nothing new there, Ontario has had a surtax regime which has been around for a while.

Surtax is literally a tax owing based on the amount of taxes you owe.

I was talking to a friend about it today and she was saying to write a letter to the Ombudsman of Ontario about this issue.

Maybe if a large of us do this we can get it changed to what it is suppose to be..

I guess its worth a try..

I hate to say it, but we all have to get used to being gouged by the tax man.

I look at it like a privelage to live in this country.

We are all consumers, and we have to pay for being here , like it or not.

You will be a tax payer till the day you die, and it wont get any cheaper, and even then,.. when you die.. your dead ass will be taxed!. Get used to it..:D

Not in Alberta. We only pay what the federal government says we have to, if they didn't ask for 5%, we'd have no sales tax.
