Yes, good point, it could be a small gent. Hard to tell, but if you look in the background on the ground there's a hat. If you kind'a eye and judge the distance from the wolf to the hat, and compare it to the wolf's paw, it looks like the paw would maybe cover half or more of the hat's visor. So I think that does make it a large wolf, but maybe not as large as in the picture if the guy is small. And yes...I have too much time on my hands for this sort of thing:D

Looks like a good sized wolf, but pictures can be deceiving, especially since we don't know the size of the guy holding it up. He is bending pretty good at the knees, probably due to the weight.
A better comparison for size are the guy's gloves, as they're at the same picture depth as the wolf.

That wolf has been shot in many provinces. :)
I've gotten various e-mails with that picture stating Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Montana, Alberta and Wyoming. Maybe someone knows the actual origin.

Not many timber wolves have been seen and shot. They are much bigger than the wolves and coyotes we are used to seeing. When i was a kid about 10, my dad brought home a pup from The Pas that was 1/2 timberwolf and 1/2 dog. the female dog's owner saw the mating and later shot the male. after a time of 2 years we could ride him like a pony. He was large to say the least. so the pic is probably authentic as the man is leaning back, knees bent and cannot pick it off the ground.

I think its real. I've got a pic of me holding a 38lb coyote. I'm 5'10" and the coyote looks huge in comparison to me and I'm 150lbs. It stretches from my nose to my ankles. A wolf is a lot bigger then a coyote and with a full winter coat they look even bigger

That shot is total BS and has been going around on the internet for a bit already. I've hunted wild dogs in Alberta for 30 years, both Greys and Timberwolves. They don't get that big. Unless that guy is 60 pounds, ther is no explanation why his hands are larger than his head. A large Timberwolf in Alberta is aproaching 200 pounds with a very rare few that surpass 200. Acording to this picture, they get to 400 pounds. Total bullsh*t.
