Huge Wolf Shot Near Conklin, Alberta

Assuming a typical Ballcap measurement of a brim "depth" of 3", and giving an additional 10% for the difference in depth of field, the Wolf in the pic measures 42" from the tip of it's visible Ear to approximately where the tail meet's it's hind quarter, and 33" from it's front right foot pad to it's shoulder (guys right wrist).

Certainly a very good sized wolf, but not a "monster" as some emails claim.why it's always nice to have a gun in the pic with the animals - much easier to identify the gun and take measurements from it.

That shot is total BS and has been going around on the internet for a bit already. I've hunted wild dogs in Alberta for 30 years, both Greys and Timberwolves. They don't get that big. Unless that guy is 60 pounds, ther is no explanation why his hands are larger than his head. A large Timberwolf in Alberta is aproaching 200 pounds with a very rare few that surpass 200. Acording to this picture, they get to 400 pounds. Total bullsh*t.

Creative computor people have large effects from other people who partake in BCs largest export product.

Grey and Timber wolf is the same species, there's no difference. I have my doubts whether wolves over 200 lbs are killed on a yearly basis anywhere in North America, that's an exceptionally huge wolf by anyone's standards.

Same family, but not the same dog. Come to Alberta and look them in the eye, you will no longer concern yourself of what people read on the internet. They don't even look the same.

I think you are jealous.

I have seen wolves taken as big as that one, and have one rugged out in my home that may be bigger. It measures 89", yes eighty-nine inches, from the tip of the tail to the tip of the nose, and weighed close to 200 pounds. Several members here have seen it in our home.

I have no doubt the picture is genuine, and would respectfully ask how many of you skeptics have actually seen a wolf, alive or dead?

That's a huge wolf Ted! After reading your post, I measured my rugs. My Arctic wolf is 74" and the one I shot locally is 78". Both are what I consider large specimens and the latter is longer than my black bear rug.

It shouldnt be that hard to believe really. There was a guy in the 'Articles" section claiming the coyotes in the Ottawa valley are 75-125lbs.....so thats gotta mean wolves are can easily reach 2 or 3 hundred pounds right????:D

I think the pic is legit.. But I also think that he is not a very big man.. Pictures can be so deceiving just from the angle or distance.. But no doubt it's a large wolf..

LOL - At a gas station somewhere north of Northbay/Sudbury Ontario 4 years ago they had this picture up and said that the wolf was shot near Gogama - near where we were going. Since I had seen the picture previously, I just laughed at the guy.

It is indeed huge, by far the biggest that I have ever seen. It was trapped by a very good friend of mine, Ed Wilkinson, who brought it to me and asked if I would like to have it for a rug. If I remember correctly, it took me about seven seconds to reply, and only took that long because I was somewhat mesmerized by the size of the thing!

That was many years ago, 1977. Ed is gone, killed by a grizzly bear a few yards from his cabin door. Still lots of big wolves around, a few huge ones, too.

As for your bear rug, if it had a 15" tail, would it be longer than your wolf? :D
