I originally bought this Huglu when Prophet River first started bringing them in. I wanted a modern SxS that had removable chokes was the main desire, and when I found out they took Mobile chokes I was sold as I had plenty for my Benelli SBE1s

I was pleasantly surprised when It arrived and I found out it shouldered To the exact point of aim it should. I can close my eyes and shoulder it and open them. The beads right where it should be. It’s quickly replaced all my other shotguns and sees 99% of use. Even had it out on the salt water and the finish never tarnished or rusted.

I’ve always loved SxS but never had one that shot well nor shouldered well. And with this one I shoot so well with it, it’s a dream

But as much as the gun was perfect, I always wished it had better wood on it. It was too light of walnut for my liking and shy of having another stock made I started thinking of what I could do.

Then one day I saw a post by an African PH on a technic used to age wood and darken it. A jar of white vinegar and steel wool and then after a couple days you paint the stock with the rusty solution.

I took the gun apart and tried it. Quickly realized I had to do more then just scrotchbrite the wood as nothing happened. A quick 240 grit sand and instant change. The stock turned black!!!! Too black!

So I decided to do a light sand again and found it had aged and darkened the wood.

This time, I remembered I had some dark walnut stain from a floating mantle I made and it was the Ticket!!

And finally as I’m an African hunting nut a proper orange/red recoil pad always brings it to another level. And my long awaited shipment from the states came in.

What did you use to grind the recoil pad?

Luckily a cousin had a handheld belt sander. I flipped it upside down and put in a bench vice. Worked just fine but it was alittle hard to get a good view of how close you got.

I ended up going through my two layers of tape on the stock before I knew it, had to do alittle repair but just some more stain and a couple truoil coats back to normal.

This was my guinea pig recoil pad as I had to redo another one on my double rifle as I added lead to the stock for better balance

I've ground recoil pads on the stock before but it's risky at best!
I screw the new pad to the stock and scribe a line, then take the pad off and carefully sand down to it so there is no accidental grinding of wood!

What kind of double rifle is that?

I did the same on the double. Took it off and got it close. But I finished very slowly with it on once it was close. In a perfect world I wouldn’t of finished the stock and could of ground it down and flush fit to the stock

It’s a 450 no 2 that was made on a BRNO ZP 49 Frame. Ron Vella in Ontario made it and I tried to get it off him for a couple years and he finally sold it. It also has the original 12ga barrels aswell to use.
