It has been 20 years since I last hunted pheasant there. I'm wondering if anyone can share their more recent experiences? PM me if not wanting to post about it. In particular I'm trying to learn if it is super busy with more hunters and their dogs than birds. If Friday's opener is going to be a zoo then it would be more enjoyable an outing if instead I were wait a few weeks for things to calm down.

I've been a member of Hullett for many years mainly for duck hunting but I also have hunted pheasants there several times. I have found up until a few years ago I could go there on a week day and not run into any other hunters and I would usually flush a few pheasants and depending on my shooting, come home with a bird or two. Lol Recently though, it seems whatever day I went there, there would be cars parked at every pheasant hunting parking lot and it was becoming increasing difficult to find birds to get a flush. I dont live nearby so I wouldn't be considered a local but those that are know on what days the Hullett staff release the birds (the truck is pretty easy to spot) and they would go there with a large group of hunters and their pointing dogs and really clean up. I tried to book a pheasant hunt at Autumn Olive recently and Andrew said he is booked up until the end of October because everyone is scrambling to find a spot to hunt pheasants because Peele Island is not running their pheasant hunts this year due to the coronavirus. I would think that is going to put additional hunting pressure on Hullett this fall as well? I don't want to discourage you from hunting pheasants at Hullett. It's a jewel of a place to hunt ducks and pheasants for free so if you do go, please buy an annual membership for $25 and a few pheasant raffle tickets. If we dont support places like Hullett they won't be around for the next generation to enjoy.

I've been to Hullet a few times on hikes but have never hunted there. I can say that in my area, which is about 25 minutes from Clinton, I have noticed an increasing number of pheasants, especially in the Hay Swamp areas. That might be worth looking into as well as Hay has several properties in the area. Lots of deer hunters in the fall but slim to none as far as bird hunters go. You have to purchase a pass and have 2 millie in liability insurance (I think) to hunt on their properties.
