This deer was exhausted laying on the ice. Muzzle was 12" away when it was shot.

Only takes a milisecond to move its head and miss. Multiple shots then.

We hunt and shot animals in the heart lungs. We also say how ethical it is. So I don't think we should be complaining about an LEO doing it, to put down an animal.

This may or may not apply depending on where you live but you may want to check with MNR to make sure you don't have to have a permit to keep the meat.Some provinces require it if you don't have a hunting license.

I had spoken to the CO before I got there. I was instructed to not kill the deer until I was sure it had broken something. Apparently the deer will recover in most cases in a matter of hours after a fall on ice. Had it actually been suffering from a life threatening injury I would have finished it myself....

If I had a gun I would never cut a deers throat, I have done it once and if there was a better way available you would be foolish to cut it's throat.
