Im utterly fed up with this crap ammo! I used it in my russian mosins and svt and had some problems but it just doesn't like to be fed to my finns at all. Generally I get all of the following problems during a range trip when using this stuff:

-Punctured Primers
-FTF (primer too hard)
-Pieces of primer blown into bolt causing ftf's
-Primers bulging after firing

I literally have to take the bolt apart to empty the pieces of primers out of it so I can continue shooting...And the pin protrusion checks out on all these guns as well...Im at a loss as to why this keeps happening! (and as a side note it groups pretty decently but it takes about 10 shots to get a 5 shot group :))

Anyhow, this happens in all my finns and seeing as I have no more russian guns, I see no need to keep this ammo so if there is anyone in the montreal area that wants 220 rounds of hungarian heavy ball feel free to PM me and you can have it!

Oh, almost forgot:

I believe the Finns are .308 bore, Hungarian ball is .311 or .312. I would slug the barrel and check, if you are bulging the primers, you have pressure problems!

I've also heard that the heavy ball such as is available at SIR is GPMG ammo. So its more designed to go boom then be accurate.

im pretty sure the hungarrian from districorp is meant for rifles. they do come on stripper clips dont they?

I have the same problems with igman in some of my finns. You might want to check the firing pin hole, it might be a bit oversize. The russian bolt heads usually are not as worn so its not a problem with them.

Bring it to the EOHC shoot and I'll take it off your hands :) My Russians will eat it up...

When is the EOHC shoot? I may be going there friday to check the place out (and join most likely because I am fed up with quebec ranges even more then with hungarian ammo!)

f_soldaten04: they did not come on strippers, just in wax paper

desporterizer: interesting theory, would make sense but still does not explain punctured primers...

It sounds like they weren't punctured, the indent blew back & seperated from the rest of the primer & into the bolt. I had never seen or heard of this until that igman stuff started blowing the center of the primer into my bolt locking it up. You have to have a pretty loose fit if a large chunk of primer can make it past the fp. Something to think about anyway. Ps it took 6 pimer chunks before the gun misfired.

hmm, you are definately right about that, now that I think of the logistics of it its definately not puncturing. Theres not much I can do then? The problem did occur 1 in 20 times with sellier and bellot ammo but thats acceptable...

The 150g ball does, the 184g Heavy Ball doesn't.
The HB is hot, I hated shooting it, kicked like a mule. Mabey the tighter bore combined with the already high pressure ammo is causing overpressure signs?

Most of the Light ball I have used has functioned fine in my Nagant and is better than the Czech stuff. The only problems I have had is the occassional cracked case, ie...

Carcked cases on old milsurp isn;t all that bad so long as the cracks are confined to the neck. If it's case head separation, that's a whole nuther matter - AND a huge problem too.
