Hungarian 7.62x39

I think it may be your local conditions .
I think I live in the rain capital of Canada .
I've shot every ammo I can get my hands on .
The only ammo that didn't show signs of rusting in the gas tube were the Norinco , an unknown Chinese commercial ammo and Winchester .
All the eastern block ammo caused rust .
But who cares ?
You can't buy the Chinese anymore and eastern ammo is your only afordable choice .
Clean your gun and all is well .

Hmmmm.......NorcyAddict plated his Marstar brake too. And he always spelled "brake" like "break" too. What are the odds of that?

I know barrel lengths, actions and ammo manufacturer contribute to performance but what would be the typical velocity and energy of a milsurp round. Thanks

Huh what? Who me? :D

I have met Red Star, and he seemed to be a OK guy, but I have never met NorcyAddict, I'm sure individual merit will show through in ones posts.

Back to ammo...thanx for the heads up post on this ammo.
I have about 40rnds that I'll put aside to use 'only when I'm out of the rest'.

I suspect this is more of a lack of cleaning ones rifle right away issue than anything else.

Also riddle me this...if the Norinco silver box stuff is called "steel case" then how come the cases are copper coloured?

Simple, it's a steel case with a copper wash applied to it. It keeps the case from rusting and will aid in extraction. It performs the same function that the lacquer on the lacquered cases does.

The steel cases are cheaper to make than brass ones, and they don't use as much "strategic materials" in their construction. But you can't use just a plain steel case, hence the copper wash or lacquer.

Thanx for the info Stevo, they sure looks pretty. :)

Darn I wish I new about the Silver Box at Pullens yesterday as I picked up some of that Czech ammo they have on sale.

The bullets are covered in a fine black soot!
