Slowly saving up some cash to get myself another crate of ammunition, as mine has mysteriously dissappeared over the summer. The whole crate just empty, sitting there sadly, as my babies go hungry... So sad...

So now I'm looking to get them fed in the near future. Curious to try some other brands of ammo, and I noticed some Hungarian ball ammunition at Districorp. There's normal and heavy Ball they got offered there, and I want to know if any other shooters have experience with this stuff.

Is ir relatively reliable? Any problems firing through a Mosin? How's about through an SVT40? Difference between the Heavy ball and the Normal? Does it have any negative effects on the barrel or a semi-automatic's action?

I'd rather like to know because I am immensely fond of recoil, and that heavy ball just sounds like fun to throw downrange... I just don't want it to eat my SVT40 alive...

haven't tried it in an SVT, but have used it in a MN 1944.

the heavy ball yellow tip stuff, headstamp "21 51" averages 2525 fps.
the light ball, headstamp "21 52" averages 2760 fps.

accuracy is about the same, as is point of impact at 100 yards. the heavy ball has more recoil. i have not had any fail-to-fire, etc with any of it that i have shot.

based on what i have seen, i would buy whichever is cheapest.

Slower speed would probably be more pressure in the chamber then, and so more oomph hitting the gas piston. Think i'll skip on the heavy ball for the SVT40 then... but use it for a bit of good fun in the M44 :dancingbanana:

I have found the hungarian light ball to be alot more 'corrosive' than the the czech. I would fire off 20 or so rounds from my SVT and 91/30 and not shoot the guns for 40mins, then as i was packing up to go home i would take apart the gas system of the svt and it would be coated with rust. The bore of the 91/30 would usually also have a light coating.

The same effects usually wouldnt happen until the next day when using the czech stuff.
