Gentlemen, I was hoping to get myself into a little home gun smithing once I get myself settled into my new job in Alberta. This past summer I happened to pick up a Hungarian M44 carbine, which shoots great. unfortunately, this rifle had had the bayonet lug and bayo removed before I got my hands on it. I'm just curious if anyone on here has replaced these before as I'm hoping to return it back to its original condition if I can. Is the sleeve pressed on, or pinned? How hard would it be to pull it off the barrel? Or would this be something best leaved to a professional? I think this would be a good starter project for someone with little experience but if I'm warned off I'll leave it to the pros.

Anyone have any further info on this, i dont wanna beat up the rifle, and im really interested in finding the parts to do this restoration pretty soon. I may just try it and if i get stuck i may have access to a decent gunsmith that can help me out.

THat sportered rifle is almost a sin, i wont be doing anything to damage the rifle, just wanna get a bayonet back on the thing once i get some money and locate it.

Unfortunately the bayo sleeve and associated parts iv been looking at are for a Russian M44, i dont think it'll have a problem fitting, but won't be original Hungarian. But at least she'll have the Bayonet on again so that a plus i think.
