Okay you hunting fans, especially the prairie CGNutters who have super opportunities for gopher shooting! These pics are for you, those who don't know how much fun groundhogs can be!!

Check out the size of this baby.... .22-250 ctgs placed on fur for scale. I'm using a Model 700 .22-250 with a re-chambered .223 LTR barrel (secret gunsmith in Bantario... classified identity ;) ). The base is an EGW (Evolution Gun Works) from www.Allengunworks.com, a board sponsor and the rings are my favorite; Millett Angle-Locs. Scope is the ubiquitous Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Mildot.

And here's yours truly standing over the earth pig. Hey, the ACU blouse only set me back $ 10 on egay!! I know it's American, but the price is right.

Yup, gophers are fun to shoot, but these guys are a challenge, too!

I think you need a taller bipod. :p

Nice rig anyhow. I love my EGW base. I'd easily pit it against the Leupold equivalent that goes for $50-60 extra. Made in the USA, with a very obvious intent on quality.

Now, look at the smile on that guy! ;)

Nice pics, that earthpig looks huge.......must be hard to spot and hit in that tall grass.

Too bad you didn't have time for a 'gopher safari' when you were here in YYC a while back. They wern't up anyway, but it would have been good to go. Lots of song dogs to keep that smile right where it belongs.....

me jealous!! can you make them go POP with the 22-250 or do you need something bigger:)

Hungry here: Even a well placed 68 gr HPBT or 69 gr. Sierra MK out of a .223 will make 'em go POP! Once I blew one up with a .308 launching a 125 gr. Remington bulk bullet PSP, I believe... center punched the critter. Not much left. Even heard the 'popping' sound. But yes, I do employ the .22-250 for kicks and giggles.

The ground hogs you shoot are about 20 times the size of the gophers I shoot at 200 yards with my Mossy 144lsb with a Tasco 6x24x scope mounted. I have shot a few ground hogs and found them slow moving, big targets. Gopher move fast and present much smaller targets when they lay eating in the grass. But cudos on the fine hog. This is the results of 20 minutes shooting. We only recovered those that were "photographable"

I'm surprised the 22-250 didn't blow it to pieces. I've shot a ummm "cat sized animal" from ~200 meters with my 22-250 with a 55gr V-max and it did a LOT of damage.
