I'd be curious to hear from anyone else who hunted the same, or and adjacent, WMU. The first day of rifle season was magical and perfect. Cold, with a light fall of snow, and out we went. My buddy nailed a nice doe and at first I feared it to be a gut shot. Fortunately, it only nicked the top of the rumen but blew out the liver. That doe dropped where she was hit and there was minimal mess when we field dressed it. He had a doe tag and I only have a buck tag. I counted 24 doe seen and the only buck I saw wasn't even fit to be called a spike horn, showing only 2 little 2" prongs on it's skull. We had a horrible spate of 5-1/2 days of warm weather; t-shirt weather! I don't know why the rut never sparked up but I seriously wonder if the ministry shouldn't consider starting rifle season on the second full week of Nov. instead of the first. This is 2 years in a row where the rut started at the end of week 2. According to biologists, the rut is supposed to be sparked by hours of daylight so I don't know what's going on. There was very little gunfire in the surrounding area for the whole 2 weeks and lots of the local guys were amazed at the lack of doe tags, given the many does seen. We may head back up for a few days of bow hunting, but that remains to be seen. I hope my fellow hunters enjoyed better success.
