Well another deer season has come and gone and our camp was again successful, but we are experiencing some growing pains. Our camp has been running for ten years now and has grown in hunters every year. This year we have had some issues, and it is now clear that we will need to be more organized to manage this growth.

So I'm looking to hear from other hunt camps that have rules to guide the camps activity. If you have a good set of camp rules a copy wouold be a great help.

For several years we held an annual archery hunt for deer.

Our rules were few and simple.

1) No hunting before camp was set up...everyone helps.

2) No alcohol before evening hunting was done...supper time.

3) First hunter to draw blood on an animal cut their tag on that kill.

4) In the case of a trailing job everyone stopped hunting and worked together to find and retrieve the animal.

5) You killed it - you clean it.

6) First animal killed was camp meat.

7) Hunting stopped when camp teardown started...everyone worked or you don't come back.

8) Last but not least...NO A-HOLES.
 
-If you didn't cook it but ate it, you clean dishes. If your the new guy in camp, regardless of age, your more than likely going to be a kitchen #####.
Get over it! Rank has privilege.
-Booze comes out when guns are put away.
-Pure piss tanks will only be tolerate the 1st night at camp & last night. But you gotta be really funny or do something so stupid you pray it never leaves camp!
-What happens at camp stays at camp & can only be used against you next year at camp by those who witnessed your dumb azz behavior.
-If something needs to be done, do it. Lazy pigs can be reminded of this in a humourous way, unless said pig owns the camp.

We had a few that helped keep the peace.

-Grub list compiled and $$$ totalled. Everybody pays equal share before the shopping commenses or don't show up to hunt.
-No obvious waste of grub or serious complaints of meal plan or you're cooking next meal.
-0 alcohol until after the guns are away for the night.
-First guy that grunts, speaks or motions as to how cold it is in the camp in the morning feeds the wood stove or gets pot of cold water over head and sleeping bag.
-No obvious, malicious disregard for laws that would get the whole group in crap or you're gone.
-No gas release at meal time only!!! Farting actually encouraged otherwise.
-Lights out after a majority vote, liquor pigs drank in the dark.
-No driving after alcohol consumption.(This weas a challenge with some but they didn't get invited back)

Your list looks good. The only rule I'd change slightly is the #5, as we have members that are allergic to deer and moose hair, but we all know this and someone else will step up to do it. Also, if you bring a guest, and said guest doesn't want to/can't clean deer, then you do it.
 
as a lover of beer:D..im glad to hear so many say..no booze till guns are locked up,
this about the rule we push at our camp..
but on another note as to camp rules..
hope you dont mind me hijacking this thread a bit to ask..
how do most camps divide up the harvest..is it split all ways to those that payed there way?this the way i like see it done..
but i know some camps use the rule of your tag your game
 
1) Hunt off your tag the first day of hunt, after that "If it's brown, it's down" unless camp decides otherwise.
2) No chicken or wrabbit hunting while hunting deer
3) meat shared evenly among those out during hunt. (you too hung over to go out, and a deer shot that day, no meat for you.)
4) everyone pitches in...( money,cooking,cleaning,getting wood,etc.)
5) You miss a shot, a notch gets cut in rim of your hat. (think twice before you shoot)
6) Gun goes away before booze comes out
7) guns down, hats off for 1 min. at 11:11am during remembrance day. no exceptions
8) no radio contact for 30mins. after shots ring out.
9) you pull the trigger, your knife get bloody (you clean it)
10) everyone does the dogging
 
Most of our group's rules are there.

1) no loaded guns within 50' of the camp. 1st infraction, pack up and get out!
2) No booze until all guns are locked up.
3) It's your tag until Tuesday, after that, in numerical order. (we pick numbers, and make a list before the hunt.)
4) Stupidity while drunk will not be tolerated, no matter how funny you are.
4a)If you pass out, you sleep where you are. (we left a guy outside in -5 degree weather all night, with a blanket, he never did it again.)

1) You pay your share, decided by camp owners who buy the food, gas, etc
2) If you shoot it you clean it, except for the one guy with parkinsins, we clean his deer.
3) If work needs to be done, get off your ass and help.
4) Everyone brings a meal and cooks their meal.
5) Only one beer at lunch, anymore and you stay at camp
6) Hungover in the morning, you stay home
7) All meat is camp meat, split between who is there for the hunt
8) If you shoot a chicken or rabbit you better be a dogger or the chase better be over
9) GET THE DOGS - If you watch the dogs go by after you missed the deer, you get to spend 2 days finding them
10) The biggest one - Stay friends, no use ruining any friendship because of deer camp, if anything you should make more


Good luck next year, but you do really need some rules to keep some of the guys honest.
 
We don't have a camp but hunt many areas. There's only one rule, if the cook asks how the meal is the correct answer is "just the way we like it" any deviation from those exact words makes you the new cook. As for all the other rules, choose your hunting parteners carefully and there should be no problem.

Oh! I see most of you are from Ontario east. I understand now.;)





We have one. Pee off the back deck -- not the front. Oh! And all food must be kept above Lab level.
 
The only time I got royally cheesed off at hunting camp was when the house's owner tried to get the other hunters to pay for his kid's food.

He owns a small house in a small town where we stayed a couple of seasons. A roof, electricity, satellite TV, kitchen use and a bed space. He isn't an outfitter, but there are bills to pay to keep the lights on, etc.

That is awesome! I will have to remember that BS excuse next time I knock a moose down in some sh!t hole. Allergic to moose hair, oh man, I can't stop laughing.
 
Everyone brings there own food for the 11 days (moose hunt). If someone is kind enough to cook for everyone (most of us just pick at food all day,no big meals) then everyone helps prepare, eat, and clean up.

We dont bring any alcohol to hunt camp...if we wanted to drink we could stay at home and get loaded.

When a moose is down/shot EVERYONE helps recover AND FIELD DRESS it. Doesnt matter if you have to stand there for 2 hours while someone else guts and quarters. As long as your there for moral support:).


....Arguements are a nightly ritual at our camp, so we just get used to it hahah. Come morning everyones ready to roll.
 
Wow,.. you folks have a lot of rules,..

Just a couple of ours are,

BRING lots of quarters or you will be really board sitting by yourself watching dvd's while the others play cards.

First one up starts the generator, last one up turns it off.

Urinating and puking must be done a MIN or 10ft from the cabin door(s) #2 go use the heated outhouse.

Seems like there are some real serious hunters out there :)
