Some backround to begin.
I was drawn for both elk and moose this year and struck out both times. Hunting was tough and not even the locals were getting anything. There were two positives. My buddy got a nice elk and I got to see some of the nicest parts of Saskatchewan.
So after using all of my holidays on these two hunts I was pretty much hooped when it came to white tail this year. My schedule at work has been so busy I was ready to hang up the boots and orange for the season. But my buddy calls me up and says I got a day off work so let's go hunting in the afternoon.
Now I work 4 am to noon so this was great and likely the only chance I would get since I don't believe in hunting by yourself. Nothing against the ones that do but I don't take part.
So I picked up my tag, grabbed the rifle and my knife. He picked me up at 2 Thursday afternoon and we hit the road. We started to hit the grids SW of Moose Jaw and saw some really promising areas. Lots of mule deer but no white tail.
Came across one mule that was amazing. The second biggest Ive ever seen.
So 4:30 comes along and that gives us about an hour of shooting left and were about an hour out of town so we decided to use the grids to go home. Finally we see two whitetail way out in a pasture. We dismount and find an good vantage point. We determine that it's a nice buck and a doe. We move in and my buddy ranges 400 yards. He takes the shot and didn't allow for the wind. Miss right behind it.
So they bugger off but stop after running a hundred yards or so.
Since this is likely the only chance I was going to get I decided to put a stalk on.
I stayed where I was and my buddy took the truck down the road half a mile and parked. I started to stalk. Got within 300 yards but was concerned with the wind so I watched to see what they were doing. They were slowly moving towards me and the wind was blowing across my face so I was safe.
I found their game trail and laid down. They came over the ridge and stopped. They spotted me but I looked like an orange blob in the middle of a field so they were more curious than scared.
Boom.
I release a 95gr pill from the .243 Savage 12fv and hit him right in the chest. He was facing me and quartering ever so slightly. I racked the bolt and as I reached for another round he dropped like he stepped into a gopher hole while running.
So we gutted him and got him in the back of the truck and head for home. This is were it gets interesting.
Yes it gets better.
It's about 6:25 and all of the sudden the night turns to day as if some one stepped infront of the truck and hit us with a spot light. I look at my buddy and he looks at me. Then the sky turns orange and we see a fire ball falling to earth. The sky goes a blue grew and then eveything went black.
As you probably guessed it was that meteorite that was I the news Friday.
Here's a video.... not mine though.
