I can see this totally happening when someone is wearing camo. So much camo today is totally realistic and it's hard to see. As for the decoy, some are pretty good. Here in Ont. the MNR places decoys to catch poachers, even during the acutally gun hunt. I was hunting a property, that has a small field, with a bush backstop. Just inside the treeline are some nice clearnings with nice deer runs. This maybe 30-40 yards in the bush. Fews years back i went to a clearing i like to sit on (i travel to it from inside the bush) The MNR came along sometime that morning and set up a decoy in the field. I hunted until lunch and headed out to my truck. One of the guys i hunt with is passing the field on his way back to camp to and can see me getting into my truck. He pulls over, gets out and Jumps the fence, loads his guns and starts shooting. Then there are all kinds of lights and trucks coming from everywere.
I stand there and watch as the MNR try to charge him for shooting the stuffed deer (mechanical too). Since we had the only permission for the property nothing could be done. We walked over to the stuffed deer, It was an real deer hide (so he thought he was shooting a real deer) stuffed and it was only 50-60 yards to were i was sitting. I could have easily been shot in the back depending on were someone had shot from. I was in full hunter orange and was still not visible from the field due to the undergrowth. This year we had major problems with guys not having permission hunting properties we hunt. We came across 4 guys all in camo (not allowed in Ont.) during the gun hunt that were very hard to see cause of were they were in thick bush. If any of us had been shooting at a deer, we could have easily shot them and not known about it. As far as i'm concerned there is no need to hunt in camo during the deer hunt, i have seen no evidence from my experiences hunting deer that they can see orange, so that's all i wear.
