Hunters 4, Wolves 1

Hunters will do anything! To 'protect' their kill.
But piss on it? :D

Our guys will work all night if need be, the moose is going to come to camp.
Had one that took us until 2am a couple of years back. One guy stayed back in camp and got a good meal going. Sure was nice to come back to a warm cabin, a good meal, and a cold beer.
Whole camp slept until noon the next day.

Just spit coffee on the screen!!!!!!!!!!:D

We used a vest draped over the moose carcass last year and had no problems.

Never heard of the taking a leak on the moose method.:D

Just curious, did you take turns to do what you did or was it that everybody just stood around the animal and cut loose simultaneously? :D :D

Looks like a few of the previous posters did not read the first post carefully (or at all?) or have added a few factoids of their own.

1. we did not piss on the meat, only on the outer fur -well away from the meat as the animal was gutted and on its belly.

2. only one person was from Ottawa. The other 3 were local and had over 100 years of moose hunting experience between them. The pissing recommendation came from one member with over 50 years of successful moose hunting experience.

3. The wolf(ves) only attacked the untreated area of the moose. The gut pile was totally ignored.

4. While I hate to dispel the fantasies about guys in the bush that some of the previous posters seem to be enjoying (perhaps vicariously?):p , we did not stand around in a circle with out d@@ks in our hand singing NDP songs while treating the fur with wolf repellent.

Our camp likes to get the anmal back to camp as a rule as well, but when it gets late and you've been hunting hard all day, fatigue makes for some potential unnecessary accidents.

Gutting and leaving for some rest should always be an option.

Last year our moose fell at about 300yrds down a gorge. No way were we going to try to get that up at night. Could barely walk it let alone get a machine down there. Like I said before, we gutted it and left it stinking of Riden.:D

No problems

JohnC ... lighten up a little, the boys are just funnin' ya.

50 years or 100 years of experiance, don't matter, I think you can see the cross Canada consensus is DON'T PEE ON YOUR MOOSE ... fur or otherwise.

Poor ol' Mumps made a mess of his computer screen again.

Even if he had 500 years experience I don't see myself falling for that one.

Of course maybe I'm wrong and there's a market for that during hunting season. All you have to do is run around the forest and pee on people's meat. "Taste the golden spray, $30."

Good topic! My kid has a rotten cold so maybe we should stick him in a bathtub full of cold water-like they used to do in the old days. Seriously, ANY advice from a person with 50 years experience is pure gold.
