As far as I am aware I have never paoched. As for him being an elitist, many people have noted the same on this thread. He creates a false dichotomy where he claims that you are either a hunter or a poacher. The fact of the matter is there are so many shades of grey in this issue that you cannot reduce it to two ends of a spectrum. I also find his claim that poachers are thieves to be outdated and outlandish. Perhaps the type of poacher that pops deer from their truck on other epeoples land could be considered a thief but current thought and laws do not see poaching as theft and do not recognize game animals as property. The idea of wild animals belonging to the king is a throwback to ancient British times and is not part of Canada's history with regards to our own wildlife managment.
I've heard horror stories of Elk troubles and landowners frustrations with F & W's ability to do squat. Were they poaching? By the letter of the law...yes.
Ethically & morally were / are the landowners actions wrong? Well from an Urban view point of course they are. From a Rural standpoint; the person who takes the financial hit and has to repair the damage...not so morally Black / White anymore.
I absolutely deplore a Trophy poacher. Hate them with a passion.
The population is out of freaking control and F & W says " Can't help you ", now we are taking grey area folks.
Easy to sit in front of the camera well fed, with a brier pipe on the table and make pronunciations about right and wrong.
Getting the gist of the Urban / Rural divide yet?
It's like the Dolt's beak'ing off about Suffield Elk or Sask Wild Boars and how it's great to have them to hunt...absolutely no clue as to the reality of the situation
