Hunters who shot at coyotes from helicopter fined

I Saskatchewan it is a violation to "Use an aircraft for any purpose connected with searching for, hunting or killing wildlife". It seems pretty clear to me. I heard the story on the news today and the first thought that came to my mind if WTF would make you think this is a good idea. I know a few trappers that will get rid of problem coyotes as the furs are worth quite a bit right now. The cost of running a helicopter would out weigh the benefits. Especially when you are in sight of your neighbours. 21,000 seems appropriate. The government using helicopters to cull deer also seems appropriate as at that time they were giving away doe deer licence's like crazy and that wasn't getting the numbers down.

They should appeal to a higher court...if they were shooting coyotes from the ground to protect there livestock, wouldn't have been a problem.

If they were shooting from a motor vehicle it most certainly would have been a problem. Motor Boat (with the engine down), dirt bike, moped, car, truck, quad, trike, snow mobile, plane, helicopter, horseback, wagon and even cross country skis pulled by a dog (at least in Saskatchewan).

You think that certificate from "Aporkalypse Now" in Texas will allow you to hunt from a helicopter in Canada? Laugh2

Of course I do! They wouldn't lie to me would they?:ar15:

My more serious point was that with the right combination of training and licences/permits its surprising what can be done.... legally. I've had some of those permits. :) If those guys shot anything but 'vermin' everyone here would want them strung up!
