Well I just got back from Spain, Portugal and the U.K and was fully expecting to come home to a lot less snow. Not the case.

I got out today for a little scout around and surprisingly saw about 40 geese scattered here and there.

Soon enough the days of cold wind and snow will be gone and the 2009 hunting season in full swing. Now I consider the spring bear and spring geese and gophers, for lack of a better word, appetizers. Things to hold you over til Fall's kitchen throw's out a main course to fill even the biggest gluttons.

Anyone doing anything special this 2009 season?

I was really hoping to get up to NWT with my sister for a caribou hunt, but it looks like that may not happen, but is not ruled out.

Well here's to looking forward to the fall season

PS

While in Portugal I ventured into an outfitting shop and found some very nice things. Leather backpacks, leather side bags, straps, shooting vests etc etc.
Through a little chit chat and interest I managed to get a beautiful gun belt made for me with leather harvested from the area I was in. It's a very nice belt (eye of the beholder) and has one pouch, with double tip and bullet holders.

My dad seems interested in going to Nunavut for fishing and musk ox. Not sure when that'll happen, but hopefully soon. Always wanted to hunt musk ox.

-Gophers (if the frikkin snow ever melts)
-Spring bear (grizzly or black)
-More gophers
-Maybe a sheep hunt this year
-Annual moose/mountain caribou hunt combined with grouse
-Bought my dad a plane ticket for his birthday to come hunt barren
ground caribou with his #1 son.:D
-Fly to Sk every year to hunt deer and hang out with the old man

And hopefully get the girl out shooting and see if she can actually drop the hammer on something.

Up next is turkey, then a dry spell till waterfowl in September. throw some deer in, in December, then back to waterfowl till the season closes.
Next big step us for our hunting party to move onto moose, hopefully in a few short years we can have our "lodge" (beat up camper trailer) all ready to go.

Pest control around the mother's house (squirrel) already got 2 of the little buggers, mom called and said she saw another one on her roof! I haven't bothered with them around the camp in years and the population the past few years seems to have exploded! Besides that no real hunting untill aug 15th. Ice fishing is now done, so nothing untill May.. That's ok, I gotta redo 2 roofs, build another deck, fill the wood piles, and haul some gravel so i'll be busy for alittle bit.

Got drawn for Matane (moose) again this year. Stuck for deer territory and hoping to get that sorted soon. Had my turkey and grouse property yanked from me. I guess I better brush up my GSP's retrieving skills since it seems we'll be spending more time waterfowling than in the uplands this year.

I'm hoping to draw my mule deer buck tag this fall, but will probably have to wait until next year. Other than that, spring black bear, elk and black bear in the mountains in the fall, and I'll probably harvest a mule deer and / or whitetail doe for the freezer.

Hoping on end of summer Blackbear Hunt (time permitting) followed by usual fall Moose hunt (adult tag ?). 1st week Deer and possibly 3rd week on Manitoulin island.

After that there may be a Northern Quebec Caribou hunt in winter 2010 but that's tough to plan for in these uncertain times.

If the snow ever leaves (just got a big dump), we'll start off the spring black bear hunting. My son and 12 year old nephew are both eager to take their first bears. This fall I'll be bowhunting for elk if I get drawn and the usual waterfowl and upland hunts. We're applying for antelope tags in Montana this year so I'm pretty pumped with the possibility of hunting goats in October. I'll finish the year off on whitetails, gotta try hard to get my wife her first deer this year.

the sheep hunt is already planned out as is my Elk hunt (on horseback) and white tail are big on the agenda... I won't get drawn for moose or antelope this year... I have loads of mullies on my property but I have less than zero interest in hunting them... I shoot piles of geese and some ducks till big game seasons open then I'm done with waterfoul

gophers all spring/summer mixed with a LOT of paper punching

then Archery Elk early fall, followed by trophy pronghorn draws down south for me and the old man, then whitetails and mule deer into november

im up for a Muley Buck tag this season.....its time to hold out for a bruiser this year ;)

God bless alberta

My wife and I did a fair bit of hunting together this year and we will be going after Kudu, Black & Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Springbuck, and maybe a Zebra.
