Now a 12 yr old can legally hunt supervised in Alberta with a rifle (after taking the Hunter Course and getting a WIN number). It's about time. I always thought that having 12-14yr olds hunting with a bow only for big game in Alberta was a poor idea.

How are things set up in other provinces?

Ontario has a "mentor" program, where a minor can hunt with an adult after completing the Ontario Hunters Ed program. The minor and the adult must share a firearm under this program. I'm not sure what the minimum age is, but I think it's 14, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Workin, its 15 to have a full license, and a minors permit to posess will take care of the supervision part (while hunting anyways)

Its great to see other provinces doing the same, but a good mentor has allready had em out well before 12. :)

Saskatchewan hunting age is 12, and 14 for the draws. They need their hunter's safety of course, but that has been in place since the seventies. The youth license including Habitat certificate, either-### deer license, bird license and trapping license (another course required) for $19.81 is a smokin' deal.

Here in BC it's 10yrs old. Their kills go on their parent/guardians bag limit/licenses until they are 14yrs and complete CORE. Then they have their own licenses and are able to enter LEH draws.

*or* complete their CORE training

I am pretty sure a 10 yr old kid can take the CORE in BC and if he/she passes, they get their Hunter # Card and are just like the rest of us with LEH & personal bag limits.

Correct. That said there are changes coming here in BC too. Talk of allowing a junior licence to the age of 19 (up from 14) and possibly allowing 1 deer and 1 bear bag limit for each junior licence.

hey david its more fun watching the junior hunter fill up your tags. i figure by fall you won't need to bring a rifle as shane will have used up all your tags. remember you may need permission to eat HIS bear sausage.

The news was well recieved in my house, thought none qualify till fall 2008. This winter they will be doig thier hunters safety and a firearms safety, I would like them to have thier minors firearm permit. Where would I start to look for courses.
