Hello all,

I was wondering what your opinion on hunting alone is, personally I think it would be neat, get out enjoy the outdoors without distractions, completly on your own so you can think, I've always liked the outdoors and spending time away from it all by myself but never for more then most of the day while having a camp with family nearby and never really far from help (larger Provencial Parks etc), but I can read a map and compass and I can navigate pretty good in the wilderness away from the trails etc. I can cover quite abit of land when needed, last summer was avaraging 7km's a hour in the bush while hiking (or would this be more like running hiking ?? ) on uneven terrain etc with a 20lb pack :)

The only downfall is if you shoot a animal just got to pack it ALL out yourself (still would give good exercise I guess :p) but other then that seems like a fun idea. :)

By the way before you talk about a emergacy etc if I was gonna do it I'd be carrying one of thouse fancy PLB for a EXTREME emergacy only. Basiclly I'd be dead within a couple hours before I'd decide to click it. :p

I was on a 3 week hunting trip basically by myself last October, hunted alone most of the time, but arranged to meet a buddy in one spot for two days, then hunted more alone, moved to the central part of B.C. and hunted for four days alone, then with a buddy for one, then drove north for moose.

Hunted alone for a day, then my buddy showed up at a pre-arranged spot and though we stayed in the same camp, him and his pal road-hunted and I hunted alone on my 21-speed mtn. bike and we met up in the evening for dinner and drinks and to exchange information.

On the way home I stopped in at another bud's camp just for the evening to say Hi and see how they were doing.

Even when I agree to go on a trip with guys I prefer to actually hunt alone and share camp.

I very rarely hunt with anyone else, even at the camp we all split up for our own spots and will come back and get help if we need a drag.

Been there, done that, bought an atv. I really do like hunting with someone else ,there is comradery and also the safety aspect. But I will not hesitate to hunt alone.

I prefer to have someone else there in case something goes wrong, but that hasn't stopped me from going it alone when the conditions were right.

I hunt alone a lot. No hesitation. I leave the map on the fridge so if I don't show up in a week or so, the kids can call me in AWOL.
I get the ol "what if you die out there" speech once in a while. So what. Better than dyin' in a hospital with a hose up yer arse.

I also like to hunt alone, I also have a cabin in northern Sk, I spend a lot of time up there alone (me and the dog). I am only 30 so my wife laughs that by the time I'm 60 her and the kid might see me a couple weeks a year and I say I'll see the kid alot more than that.

I hunt alone very regularly, only had one close call. I do forget to tell my wife where I am going or totally change my mind and not tell anyone too often.

You need to "Harden the #### Up, Dimitri !" :D ;)

Personally, I hate to hunt with someone else. Not that I don't mind the company...but talking is for around the campfire. As for safety I always tell someone when I'll be back. I also plan my game. If I've backpacked way back then a moose is out of the question! Also you only have yourself to blame for making to much noise, wearing the wrong camo, smoking, in the wrong spot, etc.

I hunt alone most of the time. My wife dosen't like it much, so our daughter got us a cell phone so I will be able to call if I have trouble. I have never had trouble, but sometimes run way overtime, so it will be nice to phone and let her know all is well.

I started hunting alone when I was about 16 and although my folks hated it, I showed them I was safe and responsible. (left a map etc)

Many years later I still love hunting by myself, just nature and me. But there are times when I like to hunt with a buddy to share the work load, for example field hunting geese. (too many decoys  )

Hunting alone is the way to go. Like it was said earlier if you screw up a hunt it is your own fault. It is nice and peaceful. You will see alot more game that way.

Hunting alone

I prefer to hunt alone as well. Mainly because I can then follow up whatever, and wherever the game leads me - stick to my own schedule and don't have to 'meet back at the truck' at a certain time.

Ted Nugent (love him or hate him) always talks about that heightened sense of awareness. You can only get that hunting alone, quiet, just you and nature. Damn just typing that relaxed me. Is it November yet? :D
