I finally got some soft point ammo in 7.62x39. Now i was wondering is it safe to use? Do I have to do anything? I read about different springs for the SKS, are these really required and if installed will it still shoot surplus?

I have found no info with the CZ858 and soft point ammo.

Have you guys used any for hunting and what were your thoughts? thanks for the input. Was think 100 meter Deer gun. I currently have one sks at Bits &peices for choate scope mount and trigger job. So if anymore work is needed to be done to SKS, I will have to brib Barry into do it while its there.

Thank you for your input.

Shot using soft points today in my russian SKS and my buddies Tacticool CZ858 and had no issues and I could not tell the difference in feel but there was a some accuracy difference at 100 yards. Knocked at least an inch off of his grouping and was a half inch high on the aimpoint's settings with surplus as a base setting.

you should watch out for slam fires
if your firing pin doesnt have a return spring you should make sure that it is perfectly clean

i had feeding problems one every 20 rd with commercial ammo , it got hung up in the locking lug just in front of the feeding ramp of my cz858. i fixed it by polishing the sharp corners .

My russian sks's shoot s&b hunting ammo 123grs.the accuracy is good and the brass looks fine after ejecting.my cz858-2 destroys the brass.the primers are starting to come out and lots of denting.i stopped shooting it in my cz.it was cause for concern when the primers are half the way out after shooting.i have not tryed any other brass hunting ammo just surplus.the surplus works fine in all.

everything I've put into my VZ858 has fed and fired fine. Only FTFs I've ever had outside of product development are due to dirty chamber.

Thanks guys! Feel much better now about shooting this stuff now. Well ill hit the range to sight in and see if i have any ftf with both.

I had problems with partial case head separations with brass cased ammo in my CZ with a dirty chamber.

After a good scrubbing with solvent this was no longer an issue.

Good point, but you probly dont want to be dissassembling your bolt too much either.
Every time before I go out I shake the bolt in my hand, make sure the pin rattles easily. Works for me.

If your going hunting, spend the $12 on a broken case extractor, nothing would ruin your trip faster than having the brass case shear off in the chamber.

Although this is never a bad tool to own, I have never had this happen with the VZ58.

I would suggest that is should never happen so long as the chamber is maintained.
