Hunting and shooting with kids??

Good post...

I have three girls. Only one is interrested in hunting. There is no greater feeling than hunting with your kid. They started at 8 years old. They were not carrying guns, just following me in silence. Now, only one is willing to sleep at the cabin with the mice. The other two are more like mom. And that's ok. They learn great values like respecting the wildlife, taking care for themselves, beeign outdoor with dad, walking to get your lunch and that meat does not grow on trees. Hope you have fun with your kid.

I started bringing my son with me when he was about 3. Got him his first .22 for Christmas when he was 5. he's a very good shot and just loves hunting, fishing, camping pretty much anything outdoors. He got his first buck this year, I've had him shooting a 30-30 the last couple of years. I've tried to get my daughter interested in hunting and shooting but she wants no part of it,loves all animals and wants to be a veterinarian. She does like eating deer though lol.

Took my little guy a bunch of times bird hunting this year. He's 3. He had tons of fun driving and walking roads looking for birds even though we only saw one this close to the city.

My wife (whom hunts too) and I took our daughter in a chest carrier when she was less then a year old. Whomever was hunting at the time was in the lead with the .22 and the other followed 50 ft or so behind with the kid. We also started a hunting journal for her.

Edit - Here we go

Hard to get a good cheek weld with the Snugli on. Screws up the gun mount something fierce.

I started taking my now 7 year old when he was 2 1/2 years old.

Had him shooting his own 26 3/8" OAL T/C Contender carbine in 22lr when he was around 3.

He had over 900 miles sitting in front of me on our quad by the time he was 3 1/2.

I took that year off so we did multiple 2 - 9 day hunting/camping/fishing trips that year with him.

Thanks to everyone who has been writing!
Hearing all this stuff is making me pretty excited for the the coming years
My wife wants him to stay small but I just can't wait till he's fallowing me all over the place...
It's already started tho he don't leave my side and crawles all over the place ...

Brought out my 6 year old girl for a ride in the sticks then I did some shooting with my .22 she seemed very interested in learning to shoot so maybe in the spring! Pretty proud dad haha

Do you have any advice for someone else with a little girl who should learn firearms respect?
I'm curious what worked with the one child that didn't with the other two.
pm me if you don't mind sharing but it's not suitable for the forum please.

I don't care so much if my daughter isn't interested in hunting, but I am adamant that she learns safe firearms handling. My father was firm on teaching me at a young age. Gladly so as my only other exposure would have been from TV (to treat them like toys).
