hunting and smoking... don't mix?

I had an interventional cardiologist sit on the foot of my bed and ask me if I wanted to live to be 45 .I was 40 at the time and had just been wheeled out of the cath-lab after having an angioplasty following a myocardial infarction (heart attack) . He was very blunt and explained that if I didn't stop smoking the odds were that I would be dead in less than 5 years. His words have stuck with me for 6 years and every time I want to light one up I think of him.
Something simmilar happened to me this past winter, Not a heart attack but very scary well 5 cardiologists later and a ####load of tests and wearing all kinds of monitors they still don't know what's wrong with me but I still get pulpitations and atrial fibrulation.
Anyhow i started going to the gym, eat fruit and veggies now and (was a steak and chips guy) and figger it's time to quit the smokes too. I am only 23 God-willing hope to make 80
Wish me luck guys, I started to quit tonight.
The long process of recovery....

Good luck to you Boer seun, and the others that have taken the plunge.
It's not at all easy for some. My foreman ended up in the hospital with uncontrollable spasms when he tried to go cold turkey. Now he's on the patch, married a smoker, and smoking too!
As to the topic, I think smoke is an excellent cover scent, Cigarette smoke has a distict odour however, and I'm not sure it's as effective as a good fire, or smoke smelling clothes from working the wood stove.
I'm always disturbed when I come upon a patch off well trodden ground surrounded by a pile of butts.
Then I'm thankful. Now I know where that dude likes to stand. I'll evaluate it for personal use.

I find it funny how creative smokers can be while justifying their habit. Smoking stinks, it is not a natural scent and it will allow anything with the ability to see or smell to identify you easier.
Being addicted to cigarettes does not make you a bad person.
But trying to say smoking has no effect on hunting success does make you a foolish one.

To an animal, we smell, whether it's from bad smoke or our natural body odor.
Having said that, I think cigarete smoke will linger loner and travell farther in the air then natural human scent.

Chewing tobacco might ge a better idea ulthough if, upon seeing that 190 whitetail, the hunter swallows the plug it might be a bit of a bugger to shoot and puke at the same time.

I can't count how many times I had to pull the smoke out of my mouth and throw it to the side to take a shot.I smoke I think it is disgusting butlack the willpower to quit.Seems like somethings always picking my a$$ and no it is not my finger.I think my dad also shot more deer when he smoked than after her quit. It's all about right place right time.

Well Ive been smoking for about 7 years and I quit yesterday. (we'll see how far I get). My biggest motivation is the cost. cost of smokes is killin me. I really can't afford to smoke, and I didnt even smoke that much. (half pack a day). I have no idea how you pack or more a day smokers can afford it? so good luck to all you life time smokers out there trying to quit.

7mm- you just have to find something that sets you off. like right now you don't really have any reason to stop so the will power aint there. But find something like cost or saving up for a new gun or something. you need a goal. If it's health thats bothers you then quit for the health benefits, if it's costs then W/E but you need to find what make you want to quit. if you dont really want to then you wont be able to.
