I leave Monday night for Matane moose. When I get back, my wife and I are considering taking the pooch to a Reserve Faunique for woodcock and grouse. We should be right into "goose mayhem" by then. I drive around close to home and see where they are landing and then ask the farmer for permission to hunt the following day. Ducks usually take a little longer to get moving, then it's 5am and down to the riverbank in my back yard with a few wood duck decoys and I hunt until the sun comes up. Then out for goose until 11am. Home, lunch, and if I'm feeling up to it, out to a small 40 acre forest nearby for grouse, woodcock, and rabbit bonuses. Before you know it, it's deer season.
Lots of people are getting ready - I was at the range last Sunday and it was madness. My range allows "walk-ins" for $20 so we end up with a bunch of people who are not familiar with the rules. The range officers are about to have nervous breakdowns.
