Hi

I'll be attending Lethbridge College in the fall.
I have my alberta win card, so I obviously want to do something hunting.

I was wondering about the regulations and everything for the area.
I figured this was the best place to come to.
any help would be sweet, thanks.

I'm looking to hunt white tail, mule, pronghorn, maybe waterfowl, and coyote

Are you an Alberta resident? Just because you have a WIN number does not mean you can automatically hunt in the province.

Having said that, do you bowhunt at all? If you do, then everything except Pronghorn should be doable in the time you are at the college. Pronghorn are completely on draw, and most zones take 3-4 years for an archery license, and 4-8 years for a rifle license.

If you only rifle hunt, then you MAY be able to get a mule deer buck tag in your second year of applying, but you have already missed this years application.

The fact you are not aware of some of this makes me think you are moving here from another province. If that is the case, you will need someone to host you (and hunt with with you for big game, and coyote IIRC) but you can hunt game birds on your own.

If you provide more details we can advise you better.

Plenty of doe tags for that area through the draw system. Often difficult to get permission to access private land near Lethbridge unless you are related to an owner or have church connections. Access gets easier as you head west towards the mountains. A few RAMP programs that guarantee you access, but the RAMP system destroyed good hunting on those same properties due to too many hunters at a given time.

I currently live in the NWT. I would strictly be Rifle hunting.

I kinda figured i missed the draw, but i had to check just in case. I'm happy with white-tail.

I just would like to get out and try some different hunting.

In that case, you will need to find someone (should be more then a few fellow students who could do this) to buy a "Hunter Host" certificate. Make sure that you choose wisely in who you ask to do this, because you will only be able too go out when they accompany you (at least for big game and coyotes/wolf). Mule deer bucks are pretty much out, but if you do some research you MAY be able to get a tag in 2 years. Whitetail bucks are general license and can be bought over the counter (with your hunter host's info), same for elk (bulls - mostly 3 point or better).

As a non-resident you are not allowed any antlerless animals, even if you do bowhunt, so that is out. Sheep are out. Buffalo are out (though there is an area where they are considered buffalona non grata, no license or tag needed, but not sure if that is only for residents or ?). Goats are out, as are turkeys (though you would not be drawn within 3 years anyway), and CFB Wainright is out.

Pretty much, your options are WT Bucks, Elk Bulls, Wolf, Coyote, Black Bears.

Off the top of my head, that's it.
